I am within 3 credits of meeting my requirements for a BSLA with Excelsior.
On the latest evaluation they notified me that I have met the credits for
an Area of Focus: Administrative/Management Studies. Anyone knows what this means,
I wanted a focus on Psychology and says so in the front of the Status Report.
I do not mind Admin/Mgmt but I have only taken a couple of courses in Mgmt.
Can anyone explain? Thanks

For the BSLS, you have to have 2 depths, which are 3 hrs UL and 9 hours LL, I beleive. To have an area of focus, you have to have 21 hours in a certain area I beleive. It will just be listed on your diploma. It is not like having a major but an area of focus is a little more concentrated that just a depth.
At least this is my understanding. I have a depth of Aviation Science andan area of focus on Psychology.
Hope that helps,
Doug

Excelsior's Areas of Focus are described in detail on pages 22-23 of the Excelsior School of Liberal Arts Catalog. (I haven't read the catalogs for the Schools of Nursing, Health Sciences, or Business and Technology, but I suppose the information is probably in those catalogs somewhere, as well.) The following is a paraphrase of the highlights:
An Area of Focus for an associate's degree is 15 credits in a single discipline. For an AA degree, the discipline must be in the arts and sciences; however, for an AS degree, the discipline can be in the arts and sciences but can also be in an applied professional discipline.
An Area of Focus for a bachelor's degree is 21 credits in a single discipline. As with the associate's degree, for the BA degree the discipline must be in the arts and sciences whereas for the BS it could also be applied professional. For the bachelor's degree, 6 credits in the Area of Focus must be at the upper level.
An Area of Focus is listed on the transcript, but it is not listed on the diploma. A 2.0 GPA is required for the Area of Focus. An Area of Focus fulfills one of the two depth requirements for the degree. There is a maximum of 2 Areas of Focus.

I think that they assigned an Administrative/Management focus based on their evaluation besides the Psychology focus I had met. I have 24 credits in
Psych. 15 are Upper Level.
I do not know what they consider Admin/Mgmt
credits? Will they count Fema credits into that focus?
Does this meet the two depths required for the BSLA?
or can I have a depth in History or Social Studies in addition to
these two focuses?
Thanks for all your help, I am calling my advisor next week and
I want to ask the right questions.
