I just like the fact that Saylor has these classes available online and I won't need to do the legwork myself, buy textbooks, etc. My son is just beginning his CBE journey and getting some basic classes started, so anything he takes should be accepted at TESC. ;-)

I just meant to study independently using your own resources. For instance, let's say you look at this page Earn College Credit | Saylor Academy and decide you want to do biology 101. (keep in mind you could choose to use CLEP, but let's just say you only need 3 credits/no lab and only have $25) So, you can use your own resources, maybe Apologia or whatever you would use normally (with answers to problem sets). Then, go in and run through the Saylor class quickly, and use their proctored exam. You'd get 3 credits for only $25 that way. *I should add that I have no idea if they have an answer key for biology, I'm just using that for an example*

I'm sorry you feel like you owe someone an apology. Sometimes, people assume that everyone has been a member for 5+ years, reads every thread, and remembers everything about everything. I thought your post was excellent and useful! Thank you for posting it!

No need to apologize. I think it's important for new members to have a good grasp on the terminology. You don't want to confuse credit-aligned with NCCRS and ACE-approved. Those are two very different things. I know you haven't been a member for 5+ years. *rolls eyes* I can see your join date on the right. My problem is with Saylor and TESC for misrepresenting this "new" partnership and making their announcement confusing. Some people would rather have you believe misinformation I guess.

Okay, I want to make sure I'm understanding this right. If I want to take the MA001: BEGINNING ALGEBRA course through Saylor and receive credit for it from TESC, I need to choose the NCCRS Credit Recommended Final Exam and take the proctored final exam. If I pass the exam, I should then be able to request an official Saylor Academy transcript to be sent directly to TESC. Am I correct? Am I missing anything? I'd love to be able to take this course and apply is for free elective credit!

You are correct about the process, but you could apply those hours to the 3 math credits you need for Intellectual and Practical Skills instead of free electives. Do you have any ALEKS or CLEP credits for math already?

I was planning on doing ALEKS for Intermediate Algebra, which I understood to be the minimum level that will satisfy my Intellectual and Practical Skills requirement.

The ALEKS class would work fine for your IPS requirement. Both it and the Saylor class could count as IPS math, IPS elective, Human Cultures, Gen Ed elective, or free elective for an English major. Multi-purpose!
(While you're looking for free electives, why not try Saylor's Managerial Communications class? It counts as COM-373 and it looks to be right up your alley.)

KayV are you sure on the Beg Algebra? Last time I checked it was classified as developmental, but I haven't checked in a while....
