So, from my understanding, they'll have a new for-credit version of that certificate program.
But it's indeed strange that they don't care about gen ed? usually, you'll need to take some AP calculus, statistics, english writing, history, etc to get accepted into top school's CS program.

Wow! This is incredible! I wish I had this option when I went to school. Where did you all find the list of schools that are participating? Among the four you listed, I think MSU is the highest ranked. The 23-course requirement does seem suspicious. You usually need 40 courses, so it seems like it's a degree-completion program of sorts. I also wonder if the degree will be with an "affiliated" school that's independently accredited like UAGC. Or like Harvard Extension School where you must tell your prospective employer that the degree was obtained by an Extension School. Stuff like that could make it lose its luster.

I think they'll sign a contract with one of the universities in the list.

The universities are:

UIUC
UC Santa Cruz
University of Georgia
University of Arizona
University of Maryland

etc ...

but it could be that they turn into an extension program like you said.

I wonder how they'll "reach out with updates about this proposed program as they become available" without collecting contact information or requiring me to log on.

UC Santa Cruz (all the UC's actually) won't even take CLEP exams, so I can't see them being one that will do something like this.
TESU BSBA/HR 2018 - WVNCC BOG AAS 2017 - GGU Cert in Mgmt 2000

Why is this so exciting for $10K? One can already get a CS degree for less from TESU and WGU. Just wondering why people are freaking out over this.

maybe excited cause it's 10k from a 'top US Uni' ? branding i guess.

I'm excited about this program since it looks like it will focus on real-world applications of computer science.

That's the fun stuff when you realize you now have the power to create things.

For 23 courses, one course would cost around $435, I believe this is a letter grade RA credits.

Even if one not interested in taking full degree, one can take one or two CS courses based on needs/interests. Not easy to find a specific CS course for letter grade as non degree, so this could be an option.

400-ish per course is close to outlier.org (UPitt) btw.

Without knowing what university, I don't know people are excited. Why the secrecy? Top US Uni doesn't mean anything unless the school is mentioned.
