Quote:I took the DSST test in January...the curve is very forgiving. Even if you think you are going to fail, don't count on it or believe it until you finish the test. I scored a lot higher than I was expecting

I agree with the above poster. Sometimes, we focus so hard on trying to master EVERYTHING that we lose perspective. The lifesaving post that I read in the Specific Feedback section went something like this.....

There were certain concepts that were just not registering no matter how hard or long I tried, so I went back to the DSST breakdown sheet for the subject material and really broke down exactly what was on the exam.

What was giving me fits, made up less than 30% of the DSST breakdown. So I stopped trying to master subject material that I wasn't getting and focused on the material that I could handle. I did this for a couple of days, went and took the test and passed with a 61/80.

It worked for me. Good luck!!!

Good advice...changing tactics....again! I stink at this organization and study thing. Thanks, Geezer.

The DSST Statistics exam looks like a lion but it's toothless and declawed. I went in there expecting to fail the exam after two weeks of half-hearted study. I thought I could go ahead and fail it, then get a tutor and try again six months later. All I really knew when I went in there was how to figure probability and standard deviation. I passed. The curve is indeed very, very forgiving on this one.

Good luck!

Really, you had no previous experience with the subject? That's amazing!

Thanks, Alissa. I was contemplating putting it off a couple of days but I think I will just go for it.

Think of it this way-- it's a way to tell how things are going by putting numbers together. In business, it helps you determine if things are happening in an efficient manner and if resources are going to the right places. In medicine, it helps make sure patients are getting the best treatment.

I might come back to this and throw in some examples if I get time.

Ditto. Know probability and SD.

I am scared of this test as well I have to take it on 3/29 and I have purchased every book known to man on Statistics and I even listen to statistics on a podcast at work but nothing is sticking. Any advice, I am also in the same situation as the OP. I need to get this done for graduation in May.

Wow....that was a beast of an exam. I can NOT believe I passed...I passed...I passed!!!!!!

I am soooo glad that all who preceded me kept saying that they were sure they failed and ended up passing. I, also, almost walked out. I was going over in my head how I was going to tell everyone that I failed all while taking the test.

I am still in absolute shock. I will post more feedback later but man I hated every stinking minute of that test. It has been the a huge barrier to me completing my degree and finally, it is done.

Thanks all for your unbelievable support...and as many say...I could not have done it without you.
