Okay...I debated about even posting this, because I'm sure there are plenty of folks here that would think I'm crazy , but I visited New York City (Manhattan area) last year for the first time, and while I wouldn't call it my favorite vacation spot in the U.S., I definitely think it's worth visiting at least one time. Heck, just the people-watching alone is worth it! LOL hilarious
We did all of the "traditional" things, and among other things I found it very cool to see Times Square all lit up at night, it gave me goosebumps to see the State of Liberty up close, and it was neat to see Grand Central Station after seeing it in so many movies!
And even though it was really hot walking around Central Park (in August), it was so beautiful there and neat to see "up close" how huge it is, which we could see from the "Top of the Rock" (Rockefeller Center) rather than standing in line for 2 hours to go to the top of the Empire State Building. It was awesome to visit the American Museum of Natural History (a "must" if you have children), and it was exciting to see an actual Broadway show (we saw "Mama Mia" and it was worth every penny). And oh yeah, I love warm pretzels so that was a treat to get them from the sidewalk vendors... :p
