STUDY UPDATE – COURSE CHANGES (EFFECTIVE AUGUST 5, 2026)

STUDY recently announced another round of major updates to many college credit courses EFFECTIVE August 5, 2026. These changes impact course instruction, lessons/chapters, assignments, and in many cases, whether a final exam is required.
WHAT CHANGED (HIGH LEVEL)
Across MANY courses, STUDY:
• added final exams to several courses
• removed final exams from others
• added new assignments
• updated existing assignments
• added new chapters and lessons
• expanded course content in multiple subjects
This continues STUDY's shift toward rebalancing courses between assignment-only grading models and assignment + final exam grading models.

• Art 103 (3 New Chapters, 2 Assignments Updated, Final Exam Added)
• Art 104 (1 New Chapter, 1 New Assignment, 1 Assignment Updated, Final Exam Added)
• Business 202 (3 New Chapters, 2 New Assignments, Final Exam Added)
• Business 203 (Additional Lessons, 2 New Assignments, Final Exam Added)
• Computer Science 102 (4 New Chapters, 2 New Assignments, Final Exam Added)
• Computer Science 103 (Additional Lessons, 2 Assignments Updated, Final Exam Added)
• Education 210 (1 New Chapter, 2 New Assignments, Final Exam Added)
• Philosophy 102 (1 New Chapter, 2 New Assignments, Final Exam Added)
• Political Science 103 (2 Assignments Updated, Final Exam Added)
• Spanish 101 (3 New Chapters, 2 Assignments Updated, Final Exam Added)

Final Exam REMOVED + Assignment / Content Changes
• Business 302 (Final Exam Removed, 1 New Assignment, 2 Assignments Updated)
• Business 309 (Final Exam Removed, Additional Lessons, 3 Assignments Updated)
• Business 321 (Final Exam Removed, 1 New Assignment, 2 Assignments Updated)
• Business 324 (Final Exam Removed, 1 New Chapter, 3 Assignments Updated)
• Computer Science 302 (Final Exam Removed, 2 New Chapters, 3 Assignments Updated)
• Computer Science 303 (Final Exam Removed, 1 New Chapter, 1 New Assignment, 2 Assignments Updated)
• Finance 301 (Final Exam Removed, Additional Lessons, 3 Assignments Updated)
• Marketing 302 (Final Exam Removed, Additional Lessons, 1 New Assignment, 2 Assignments Updated)

IMPORTANT (FROM STUDY)
STUDY recommends students COMPLETE these courses BEFORE August 5, 2026 if they want to avoid the updated requirements.
What this means:
• students may now be required to complete a final exam in courses that previously did not have one
• some courses will instead remove the final exam and require additional assignment work
• additional assignments
• new chapters and lessons
• revised course requirements
• updated grading structures

Always review your current course syllabus after August 5 if you're enrolled in one of these courses.
IMPORTANT FOR HOMESCHOOL FAMILIES
If your student is on the HOMESCHOOL plan and later switches to a COLLEGE SAVER, COLLEGE SAVER PRO, or COLLEGE 
STARTER subscription:

Be aware:
• course versions may change when switching subscriptions
• homeschool and college course versions are not always identical
• assignments, tests, and finals may differ
There is no way to know exactly what will change until the student switches subscriptions.

REMINDERS
• Course versions depend on when the student enrolled.
• Students in the same course may have different requirements.
• ALWAYS review the current syllabus and progress bar.
• Most college credit courses still use a 300-point grading system.
• 210/300 points (70%) is typically passing.
• Chapter Tests usually keep the highest score of the first 3 attempts.
• Assignments can usually be resubmitted up to 2 additional times for a higher score.
• ACE credit generally transfers as Pass/Fail and does not affect your college GPA.
If your course looks different from someone else's, it is likely due to these ongoing course updates or differences in course versions.

ENGLISH COURSE REMINDERS
• English 204 (English Composition II) expires August 31, 2026. Students must complete the entire course, including all required assignments and the final exam (if applicable), by that date to remain eligible for ACE credit.
• English 205 (Technical Writing) expired May 31, 2026. Students who did not complete the course by that date are no longer eligible to receive ACE credit for the course.

I wonder if the removal of these final exams and instead substitute them for another assignment was to help combat AI since they removed proctoring.

I thought similar but its odd to remove for some and add for others, can't help but think this all goes along with all those WSJ stories. Sophia and their removal of all PDFs and ability to use ctrl+F certainly seems to be.

Without looking at SDC, but by kind of remembering some of the course numbers, it looks like they removed exams from a lot of the courses that people in mass were taking to fulfill certain direct transfer agreements to some of the schools that we talk about on here. Most likely, and again in my opinion, probably in response to the use of AI on those exams and just how fast people were flying through them. Then again, final exams added for the other ones may have been because not enough people were taking them or failing the course(s). I could be wrong.
