ASU's non-proctored courses
#11
So far, ASU's 1-credit class is not proctored either. But I can't figure out how to complete it. Since I already did the Coursera Google IT certificate, I was able to blast through all of ASU's course already. Except it's still saying I haven't completed the main part of the course. Maybe I just need to wait for some random update time for it to recognize that I've done all the quizzes and labs.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

Interesting. Is there additional content beyond the normal Coursera content? Content that ASU added?

I wonder if anyone has reached out to ASU to see if completing the normal Coursera Google IT Support Cert can count towards those classes...

Yep, there is the main Coursera content (it literally mentions Coursera in the videos, ha!) and that is worth 100 points. Then ASU has its own quizzes that you can take for an additional 60 points (10 points each). Then there are up to 5 points for the "how to make a PB&J sandwich" writing assignment. I currently have 56/60 points for ASU's own quizzes + I should have something like 93/100 for the main content. This should give me somewhere around 150/165 possible points or 92%.

ASU's quizzes for this course give you unlimited attempts, so I could go back and get 60/60 points for those if I could be bothered to do so.

I also finished it quickly, and I have the same issue with the Qwiklabs course not showing as completed in the ASU course. Maybe wait until tomorrow and then reach out to support?

I'll wait a couple of days, at least until the sandwich assignment gets graded. I'm not in any hurry, so I don't mind the wait. If anyone else IS in a hurry, feel free to reach out to support!

It updated for me. 160/160, still pending the writing grade.

Huh, interesting. I also have 100/100 for that portion. But I know I didn't get 100% on at least one of the quizzes there due to technical difficulties. Now I just need to wait for grading and I can complete the course.

I've found at ASU it really depends on what department the class is in. I'm a History major, so I'm not taking many classes that require proctoring. However, MAT142, which is required for any liberal arts type major, has a bunch of proctored tests (it was a pain in the ass.. you have to install some invasive software on your computer for it).

COM 100: When I took it, all those reaction/response written components were self-graded, but the exam was proctored. Now the exam is unproctored, but the written components are graded by an instructor.
There are 3 reaction/responses and 4 situational analyses and they require 400-450 words each. Those are pretty small writing assignments, making this class very manageable.

PSY 101 - Intro to Psychology also has no proctored exams, and on top of that, the class is ASYNCHRONOUS! It's a fantastic opportunity for people who want/need the flexibility and have problems proctoring.
The grade breakdown for Psy101 is shown below:

Note the professor has built in the opportunity for extra credit.

The syllabus for this class is very long and complicated and tries to explain a lot of different what-if's, potential snafus and tips that would be helpful for any class. It's definitely written for first-time college students that the professor seems to want to go out of their way to help them adapt and succeed in college work.
---
CIS 308: This also appears to be unproctored and exams allow multiple attempts! Good opportunity to score some upper-level CIS credit.

I like what ASU is doing. Opening good possibilities at reasonable tuition rates...and it's low-risk, high-reward. If you don't like the final grade, you just don't pay the $400 transcription fee, and you could opt to take the class over again in another semester. (My stepdaughter did this with sociology. Neither of us were happy with her C, so we opted not to transcript and she repeated it later for a B.)

Can also conform SST-220 Introduction to Social Transformation is also unproctored.

How long do you have to decide on transcripting a course for a grade once you’ve finished? A few days? A month or more?
