Best Route to Take For An Associates
#1
After talking with my fiancee about her current education status of just passing her NCLEX and the final step to becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse, we've decided it's best for her to at least get an associates from somewhere since she currently has about 80 credit hours built up. Does anyone know the best route or which school would transfer best with her current credits. I realize that the majority of these would probably only be accepted as electives especially the 1-2 credit each courses.

You can try excelsior since they have a nursing program as well. Maybe they can work stuff for an associate in another program with those credits.

She would need 3 credits in Humanities and 1 credit in Information Literacy for Excelsior's AS in Nursing. Information Literacy has to be taken through EC now, now PF, but on the bright side, there's no Capstone. Smile

Having someone with that much knowledge as the poster above in this forum is really great. Almost like having a personal adviser without having to even enroll. Smile

Aw, shucks, thanks Vaust! There are a dozen people on here who are better at it than I am. I love how everyone has extra ideas about how to fulfill degree plans. I learn something new every day, it seems. Smile

FYI- if Excelsior decides that practical nursing is not the same as regular nursing, she would just need to add the Capstone, 3 Humanities, and 1 Info Lit for an AS in Liberal Studies.

For an AAS in Applied Heath Studies from TESC, she would need English Composition II and an Associate Capstone.

For an AS in General Studies from Charter Oak, she would need English Composition II, Ethics, US History or Government, non-US History or Culture, Literature/ Fine Arts, College Algebra, and the Cornerstone course for a total of 21 hours.
BA, MA, EdS, MMT, etc.

A lot of people on here will tell you to probably go the route of going to one of the "Big 3" colleges. Normally I would too; however, due to my experience in healthcare I would strongly suggest just doing an LPN to RN bridge program at a local community college. It should only take a year and there is a chance you could use CLEP exams to even decrease the workload. I realize that Excelsior has a program, and I respect that but consider the cost and experience. You can truly finish this fast at a community college, that I promise. Now if for some reason you want an associates degree in something else go the "Big 3" route, but it probably makes more sense for your fiancee to finish the RN degree. Plus once an associates degree in nursing is established there are many online options to ascertain a BSN or MSN that are provided via the "Big 3" or other colleges. So long story short: If your fiancee wants a career in nursing then he/she needs to finish an associates degree in nursing at a local community college then seek a BSN anywhere. If your fiancee does not want a career in nursing then pick a degree program and start testing out. I realize that you will get a lot of advice, but I must inform you I work A LOT with nursing. A matter of fact I work with them everyday. If you refuse to take this advice then at least seek the advice of an RN. Hope this all works out for you and best of luck

Wow, I thought I already responded to you with a thank you very much. I have talked with her and I'm trying to convince her to take humanities CLEP/DSST and than take the course through excelsior since an associates would look better on her resume than the current certificate. Thank you very much for all the help! Keep up the good work!!!
