Can somebody remind me how much credit TESC awards for FEMA for a TWO year degree?

Huh. So I guess AP Lang test is out. Still not a lot of data to use for straighterline. I would be furious if I took straighterline's English classes and wasted my time because it duplicated. That would be heartbreaking. I really don't think it should duplicate, learning to write properly and the class I took in high school are absolutely separate in learning intent. We spent most of our time studying books and guessing what the author intended (often attempting to create meaning where there is none), etc, etc..

There is value in taking the English class even if it will not count for credit.

Sounds like the high school class prepared you for the A&I Lit CLEP. Just don't read too much into things, if you take that exam.

I'll try revising the "plan". Check it in a few minutes. I think with A&I Lit, Stats, and Info Lit, (and some computer exams, if you wanted to trade out more FEMA) you would be done with your first degree!

You have been so helpful! I haven't had a plan yet, I've just been winging it, racking up any cheap credit I could find hoping to eventually get somewhere with it.

Try and avoid CLEP in your plan as much as possible. I'll do a basic computer one if I must, but hopefully that's all.

You are welcome!

Okay check this out:

I think you could do A&I Lit, but you just need 6 gen ed credits and there are lots of choices. Find what works best for you.

The computing exams (CLEP and DANTES) would help reduce your FEMA costs and help with an Area of Focus. They are totally optional at this point since you have more than enough Applied Professional credits already.

So in your current plan I would need 3 social sciences and 3 humanities, that's a different way to mix it up. Nice alternative, thanks! I didn't know I could split a class that way.

Right, so at this point you have 2 ways to complete the gen ed:

If you choose to get 9 credits in the Humanities category, you need 6 more credits in Humanities and no more credits in Social Science/History.

If you choose to get 9 credits in the Social Science/History category instead, you need 3 more credits in Social Science or History and 3 more credits in Humanities.

You need 9 credits in one category and 6 in the other. 3 of your 6 credits for AP English Lit will count as Humanities and you have 6 Social Science credits already.

Please keep the A&I Lit CLEP in mind as an option. As a math major, I would never have considered taking a Literature exam. I took it only because of the encouragement of members of this forum. If I had not taken it, I would not have enough Humanities credits to have my AS now. I will be going to the ceremony in 2 weeks!

Looking through some practice tests will help you find some other options, too. You can read my feedback for A&I Lit (and other exams) here: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...#post75628

It is exciting to be so close to finishing a degree, isn't it?

It's exciting, but having it within an approachable distance stresses me out! I cannot pace myself, and when I'm working on actually making money I just wish I was getting on with this degree! Also, there are fully 8 or 9 computers I have bought that are broken that need fixing so I can sell them that need to be taken care (would probably take one serious afternoon of work on my part) that are just sitting that I've owned for weeks. I just don't want to do them. I want to get these awful straighterline classes done! Nothing else seems to matter and I've not done anything but straighterline for weeks.

That said. I've done three courses in less than three weeks and I'm hoping to get a 4th done. It's worth it! $18/credit if I get done this month with the 4th (I had a coupon code as well).

True. Figuring out how to balance life and school has been one of the hardest parts of this process for me, too. As you know, being so close to the end doesn't help much because all you want to do is work to get the degree finished.

If someone who is familiar with TESC would be willing, I would be very interested in seeing how close RickyJo is to completing an Associate Degree through them. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for taking such a personal interest!

The issue of straighterline duplicating my AP English Literature is still on the table as well.
