My son racked up 150 on his class, but honestly, if you don't want to mess with homework and/or proctored tests, it's easier on the nerves.Wink

Yeah, that too! Smile

The other thing i forgot to mention is that some of the 250+ Hour Club probably includes folks who are only using ALEKS and have no other supplementary materials. You could spend a significant chunk of hours simply reading explanations and redoing things you have no way to practice/check elsewhere.

PeteDude makes a very good point, and since this is a long thread, bears repeating for those who come in new. ALEKS is usable for learning all by itself (I did so, for pre-Algebra, about 70 hours, much of which was relearning), but I find Business Statistics benefits from supplementary material. I can recommend Idiot's Guide to Statistics, the Annenberg Against all Odds video series (with the fetching Dr. Amabile) and the occasional Web search. I have Barron's Business Statistics and Business Statistics Demystified on hand, but haven't used them very much.

Likewise, for College Algebra: I've dogeared my copy of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Algebra, and have made good use of College Algebra Demystified. The Idiot's and Demystified books for PreCalculus have also been handy too, as not everything in ALEKS is covered in College Algebra books. The PurpleMath website has also been very, very helpful. Occasional Google searches for certain topics as well as YouTube videos round out the study kit I've been using.
Hi Cook/All,

My degree audit at TESC was just completed.

All coding held true with the math courses. Intro to Stats (007) and Stats for Beh Sci (009) were both transcribed as Principles of Statistics (STA-201) and the latter coded RI DUP (ruled ineligible for this program-duplicate). I was given credit for Business Statistics (008\OPM-351) on both degree transcripts: business (both courses within major) and social science (both courses in gen ed elect).

I followed the precedent set by lwmcc (post #314 1/28/09) once I saw the transcript had been received I requested an evaluation of the ACE transcript. 2/3 vs 1/3 was definitely worth it and may be able to use the beh sci course later, at a different institution. In all fairness I think there was a lot of crossover on 007 and 008. And as long as TESC's stats course is not titled Intro but Principles all should be fine for future goals. And if not, Beh Sci is still sitting on the ACE transcript.

Any who just wanted to pass along the information to TESC students. I'm wondering if it may just depend on your major because I was also told by express advising stats was stats and only one course would apply. My view, just get it on your ACE transcript and worry about the particulars later; once all the dust settles. For anyone who did not get the correct result, wait until close to graduation and request an evaluation.

Next: Straighterline

Good luck everyone!

ok, so I'm pretty sure we have a final list of ALEKS classes for TESC. It appears as if 2 of them duplicate, which usually means you won't get credit for both- so choose either/or from those.

TESC ALEKS evaluation
001 Beginning Algebra- MAT102
002 Intermediate Algebra- MAT115
003 College Algebra- MAT121 *TESC Duplicate College Algebra w/trig
004 College Algebra with Trig- MAT121 *TESC Duplicate College Algebra
005 PreCal- MAT129 *TESC Dulplicate Trig
006 Trig- MAT129 *TESC duplicates PreCal
007 Intro Stats- STA201
008 Business Stats- OPM351
009 Stats for Beh. Science- STA199

Based on this list, anyone should be able to obtain 12 non-duplicating math credits plus 6 non-duplicating stats credits for a total of 18 possible math/natural science credits. When math/science general education area is full, those overflow into general education electives.
Additionally, business stats would be a free elective (not general education elective) for everyone except business majors.
Yes I found out that this week too. Everything on Cook's conversion is right on the button except for ALEKS009 which is actually STA201 not STA199. Therefore, Intro. to Stats and Stats for Behavioral Science would duplicate at TESC. They must've made some changes. So for those who got credit for both consider yourself lucky. Regardless, ALEKS has been a neat way to gain some extra credits.

Glad you guys posted this. They changed it, the first person who had an eval early on in this thread had it non-duplicated as 199 AND 201 lol....it just takes some time for them to work out the kinks. Well, in any event, at least we know!!

OH...and in other news, I just got a 37% stats assessment!!! <doing the happy dance> I know, I have a long way to go, but I'm kickin major butt lol!
Latest and last (?) breakdown for ALEKS at TESC. Here we go- 15 math credits and 3 business/free elective. That's 18 in all!!

This confuses me a bit. I did the intake eval and scored 85% but it still required me hours and hours of problems to get the assessment to pop up. Now I know that through the master account I could have requested an assessment but how is it possible to get above 70% on the original assessment and not have to continue? Big Grin

The first thing you do with an ALEKS course is take the initial assessment. If you get over 70% on your initial assessment, you're done. Log out of ALEKS, log into ACE, and have them pull the info over.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

Bachelor of Science in PsychoRabbitology degree
Master of Education with a specialty in Rabbit-specific destructive munitions (or eLearning & Technology, I forget which)
Doctor of Philosophy in Wile E. Leadership with an area of specialty in Acme Mind Expansion - 2017 Hopefully
