I took both Criminal Justice and Intro to Law Enforcement in July. Took two weeks of studying on both of them, and used mainly IC for both. I had a course book for Criminal Justice, but I didn't like using it so I just used IC. I got a 54.

Criminal Justice, is not a test I recommend trying "cold". My definition of "cold" is that you "don't know ANYTHING about it." And that's how it was with me and Intro to Criminal Justice. But it is definitely passable with just IC.

With Intro to Law Enforcement, I hated the book I had for it (can't remember what it was called), and just used IC. I passed somewhere in the mid 60s. The only catch though is that I took a course in Criminology right before that test, and I think that that really helped me get through. Anyhow, Neither of these tests should be taken lightly, yet they are not so hard as to totally freak out about (like Statistics, or Micro-Economics).

Taking this test Wednesday, was suppose to take it last week but got canceled cause the colleges decided to close up for two weeks. Any last minute advice or study thoughts? I wish there were multipal choice practice questions that I could take but can't seem to find any.

Hello,

I am going to take the Intro to Law Enforcement exam. Any study aids that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have read threads where people have used to cliff notes to study, where can I find the cliff notes?

Thanks so much for your help.

P.S please email any info. to blackbutterfly33@yahoo.com.

I am testing for Intro to LE & Criminal Justice this Thursday and Friday. Here are a couple of websites that have helped me study the case law issues. I have been studying for around 2 weeks using only IC (Criminalogy&LE), Google, Wiki and I have the Rudmans red books for each test, but they are horrible. I do not suggest using them. Thank goodness I checked them from the library and did not purchase them.Wink Hope these sites help. Will update the thread after I take the tests. Break a leg.

snazzlefrag Wrote:Hi All,

As promised, here is my feedback on the Intro to Criminal Justice exam.

This truly is one of the easiest exams out there...if you have studied.

I think the recent reports of people failing this exam (or scoring quite low) is probably a result of all the earlier reports saying "it was easy" and "you can take it cold". I assume that people took this exam for granted because of that advice.

So here's the REAL scoop...

MOST of the questions are general knowledge/common sense. You COULD probably pass this exam cold if you have the right amount of general knowledge related to Criminal Justice.

However, it is important to remember that those questions would be easy for EVERYBODY who takes the exam. As a result, answering the easy questions might not be enough to score highly on this exam (if everyone gets them right, then the scoring curve will reflect that).

This is where the "study" comes in: There are lots of questions that you probably wouldn't just 'know' off the top of your head. I think THESE are the questions that will separate the high scores from the low.

Eg,

An easy question might ask (and there are LOTS of them):

Which of the following is included in the Miranda Rights?

A. The right to punch the arresting officer.
B. The right to escape.
C. The right to remain silent.
D. The Last Rites.

Very easy, right? But it is SO easy that EVERYONE taking the test is likely to get it right. Therefore, answering this question correctly is unlikely to separate you from the "average".

Now, a more difficult question might ask:

Which state established the first Juvenile Court in the United States?

A. Michigan
B. New York
C. Pennsylvania
D. Illinois

It is unlikely that most people would know this without having studied. But if you HAVE studied, this question is very easy. As a result, answering this question correctly would very likely set you apart from the "average" test-taker, and thus result in a higher scaled score.

Does that make sense?

The bottom line is:

A. If you study using Instantcert alone, you will know EVERYTHING you need to know to answer almost every single question on this exam.

B. If you take this exam cold, you might pass. But you will only be able to answer the questions that everybody else is likely to know too. As a result, your score could be perilously close to the perfect "Average" (50). As you know, a 50 is just as close to failing as it is to passing. So I would not risk it. Anything lower than a 49 is a FAIL.

I read Cliff's Notes in addition to Instantcert. I can absolutely assure you that Instantcert alone is sufficient.

This exam, in my opinion, is SO easy that the curve could very well work against you (everyone can answer a lot of the questions correctly, so it is harder to get a high SCALED SCORE).

It's very easy...but don't take it for granted. Hardly ANY questions on this exam are 'difficult' IF you have studied...so make sure you DO!

Hope that helps,
Snazzlefrag

Thank you, I will need to remember this when I start this CLEP.
I knew the asnwer to the first question you exampled! Though A would be funny. hilarious

If you're big on law enforcement (meaning watch a lot of tv shows) and it interests you, then Intro to Law Enforcement and Intro to Criminal Justice should be fairly simple. ALthough I am a Criminal Justice major, you could pass with little study. I walked in just cause and passed both and I'm a terrible test taker. As long as you aren't relying on shows like CSI and Law and Order to get your facts, you should be golden with these tests.

I am preparing to take the Intro to Law Enforcement and I believe there are about 750 study questions with about 5 categories. Any advice on whether they cover all categories?

Thanks

Thanks! As you can see I finally got on here to start getting serious about this a month after I asked the question. This is for my last 3 credits. I was a police officer for 6 years and just want to make sure I am prepared. I got intimidated when I saw 750 questions.

Thanks - Dave

Hi all. I'm helping my son do a bit of degree planning. Can some of you who took this verify where TESC put it on your transcript? He needs 6 gen eds.

Thanks!
