Does it makes sense to have two AAS Degrees?
#21
chiquitacobbe Wrote:Ok I now have the three listed degrees on my evaluation and of course...BAM!!... there is the capstone requirement for AAS ESST. My question is do I contact them now to have it waived? Even though I may not apply for graduation for that degree until the July 1st deadline. I will not go for that degree if I have to take the capstone. Not worth the time or effort.

Any advice???

Contact them to have it waived right away. The longer you wait the more likely they are to have the course out there.

Just heard back from TESC on waiving the Capstone for AAS ESST, dont like there response but maybe there still could be hope.

Quote: Please be advised that the course APS-295 Associate Capstone is currently under development. This course should be available by June or July of this year.
Your request to have this degree requirement waived cannot be granted. APS-295 is only waived for students who have completed all of the other degree requirements for their AAS degree and have applied for graduation. By the time you complete all of the other requirements for the AAS degree the course APS-295 will be offered.
If you have any additional questions you can either write to the Office of Academic Advisement again or you can schedule an advisement appointment. Take care and have a nice week.

I guess I need to just be thankful to have the one degree heading my way.

So, you just have to show that you're ready for graduation before they can waive the capstone requirement? What if you're ready to graduate in June or July and you have to extend your plans to graduate another 3 months because of that stupid capstone? To require a capstone that is almost a half a year away from being made available is so dumb. TESC continues to top itself.

I don't know! My plans are fading fast. I am planned to take my spanish clep for 12cr and DSST intro to comp in early april. TESC seems to have screwed me up on TEEX computer credits since they only marked two out of the three as CIS so I will end up being 1credit shy of my core work. Which just means I will have to take the DSST MIS class which I was really hoping to avoid. So that means end of April I should be done with AAS CS. Then I would need to take 12 add'l FEMA credits (no big deal) for AAS ESST then apply for that grad. Not sure what I will do. my head hurts from all the changes!!! And needing one credit in Computers really ticks me off!!!!!! Unless somehow I fight for my old MCP certification to count, but they keep saying it needs to ACE approved and its not on their list. Any suggestions would be appreciate.

I'd rather take the DSST, but JavaOnline.org offers pretty cheap courses that are NCCRS-approved.

The catalog says "Second Associate degree
Students who have received one associate degree at Thomas
Edison State College or another regionally accredited institution
and wish to earn a second associate degree must:
• Complete a minimum of 12 additional credits in the option
for a second associate degree beyond the date the most recent degree was completed."

Which looks to me like you can start working on a second associates right away, but I would still e-mail them to verify.

I always thought you couldn't start until after conferral, but I think I once got an email that said you could start after applying for graduation. Yeah, you should email for clarification.
