Does Excelsior have a limit on how many FEMA credits they will accept? I would assume they would use those in the 45 free electives slot, right?

Master of Arts - Emergency and Disaster Management - Estimated Completion 2014
Bachelor of Science Human Services in Emergency Disaster Services - TESC- December 2009
Culinary Arts Certificate - Boise State University 2002
This may already have been answered in another thread and I missed it, but has anyone attempted using FEMA credits as the career portion of Excelsior's AAB/AOS?
Another good use of the BPS would be for someone seeking the best fit for credits accumulated over the years and whose goal is to go on to the locally recognized university for a particular major without having to jump through Local U's Gen Ed hoops.
Our local U requires a 2.0 GPA but does not individually evaluate credits earned toward existing bachelor's degrees. If I went to them right now, I would have to take at least six courses just to satisfy requirements in addition to the 30 hours of major courses.
It will be interesting to see what the upper-level requirements for the BPS might be.

I'm betting that FEMA won't work here, and that the areas of focus are your elective /major areas. I'm not totally up on EC, but I think they use a different term- "applied professional" and so this may be interesting to see how real electives are applied (or allowed)
I spoke to someone at Excelsior today and they gave me a little more info on the degree.
They mentioned that they will be allowing more certifications to be used. What the certifications were she couldn't tell me because she doesn't have that info yet.
Of the courses for the technology degree for the professional area she mentioned a course of technology in society, an engineering course, and economics (?).
Driving so I didn't get them all but these stuck out. I think the type of engineering course depends on what your focus will be.
Also she said only 15 UL will be required.
Hopefully more info will come along. I really want to know what certifications will be allowed.

Thanks for the info! I can't wait until they release the whole degree layout.

I have been looking at the different degrees at EC and trying to see how best to apply my existing credits towards a Bacehlors. Since I have a lot of electronics credits from my Military training I took a good long look at this new BPS degree from EC. I have come to agree with cookderosa about this degree, it can be VERY useful to a great many folks, especially those in my situation. Anyone with a lot of "Applied Professional" credits in IT, Business, or Electronics can really benefit from this program. It also appears that one could possibly test through nearly everything in the Business program with the exception of the capstone course. Technology Management also has a capstone course. If I did my spreadsheet correctly it looks like I can use 53 Military credits, wow! There needs to be more discussion about this program on this forum, more people need to know about it so I am posting this info for everyone here.
Attached are two word documents Emailed to me from EC outlining the credit distribution requirements for the BPS in Technology Management and the Business Management major as well. I have also attached a spreadsheet I created as a roadmap for myself towards the BPS Tech Management. Any comments, thoughts, and opinions are appreciated. I am hoping to get this plan approved by EC but as of now it is all unofficial.
The two spaces that say NEED UPPER LEVEL CLASS HERE on my spreadsheet are my biggest issues. EC told me that they have no courses to fulfill those requirements right now but they are under development. I am stumped as to what to do about that. Just wait it out or try to find some course equivelents somewhere else? Other than that I am wondering if the "Principals of Supervision" DSST will satisfy the "Leadership" requirement. Everything else seems pretty straight forward. SMART and CCAF on the spreadsheet denote Military transcripts.
Since EC has a Master in Business I am wondering if you could possible take a grad level leadership class? Most business schools have them. Many schools allow people that are close to finishing or in their senior yr to start taking grad classes. Just a thought.

I will put this course in my degree plan. I have an Excelsior Military Representative reviewing my degree plan and transcripts right now, I'll ask him if this course will fulfill that requirement. After reading the description I don't see why it wouldn't. Ill post in this thread again after the Excelsior rep tweaks my degree plan.
