Help my degree plan
#1
So i have taken 65 credits from a B&M school. I am planning on getting a BALS from excelsior with a depth or AOF in Psychology and English Literature. The classes I have taken are:

English 101 3 credits

Humanities 12 credits
Art History
Intro to Philosophy
English 102 (?)
The Holocaust

Math/Science 14 credits
Physics
Biology
Statistics 1
Statistics 2

Social Science 9 credits
Intro to Sociology
Women, Men and Social change

Depth/AOF
Intro to psychology
Social psychology
Abnormal psychology

Depth 2/AOF
Tech writing
Intro to women in drama

Applied profesional/additional arts
Community Health
Intro to Criminal Justice
Criminal Law
Constitutional Law

I am thinking of taking the following classes to finish the degree

Straightliner Accounting 1 3 L/L
Straigtliner Accounting 2 3 L/L
Straightliner Economics 101 3 L/L
Straighliner Economics 102 3 L/L
CLEP Analysing and Interpreting Literature 6 L/L
ECE Research methods in psychology 3 L/L
ECE Lifespan Development 3 L/L
ECE Adulthood and Aging 3 U/L
Ohio University Shakespeare exam (2 of them) 4 or 5 U/L
ECE Foundations of Nursing 8 U/L
ECE Psychiatric Mental Nursing 8 U/L
ECE Adult Nursing 8 U/L
Uexcel Political Science 3 L/L
my question is can this be done and finished by the end of summer? And if I took english 101 and english 102, would english 102 and technical writing be counted in the english depth? I need to take classes/exams that will give me a grade at excelsior because i need to raise my GPA(its a 2.7), are there any other suggestions in the classes available for credit or maybe suggestions on the depth? I really am hoping to finish by summer so the quicker the better :}

Thank you very much Confusedeeya:

I am not sure if they will take both stats 1 and stats 2, I believe they might see that as duplication. Or said another way , stats is stats , in their eyes.

Thank you because I never really thought about the duplication of credit. Im just going to list what they were and I wonder if they would be considered as duplicated.

MAT102
Introduction to Statistics . . . . . .3 cr.
Prerequisites: Satisfactory completion of MAT
002 or a working knowledge of elementary
algebra. Students must have satisfied all MAT,
ENG and RDG remediation requirements prior to
starting the course.
*See calculator note. Appropriate and
inappropriate uses of statistics, measures of
central tendency and variability, basic concepts of
probability, the binomial, normal and 't'
distributions, testing hypotheses, estimation, chisquare,
linear regression, and correlation.
SUNY GEN ED-GMAT; NCC GEN ED-MATH

MAT103
Applied Statistics . . . . . . . . . . .3 cr.
Prerequisites: MAT 102. Students must have
satisfied all MAT, ENG and RDG remediation
requirements prior to starting the course. Course
A taken over two years is not "two years of high
school Regents mathematics." Course A taken
over three years is not "three years of high school
Regents mathematics."
A course for students concentrating in liberal
arts, social science, humanities, and statistics.
Through the use of computer software packages
such as Excel, Lotus 1-2-3, Statistical Package for
the Social Sciences (SPSS), and Minitab, the
basic and more advanced ideas of descriptive
and inferential statistics are studied.

This is an interesting strategy that I have not seen used before.

In the latest guide, it looks like there are 4 UL DANTES exams, which are awarded grades still.

MS Biostatistics in 2019 at Texas A&M University - Graduate School

Are these exams considered Liberal Arts & Sciences or Applied Professional/Free Elective? The reason I ask is because if they aren't Arts & Sciences, you are limited to 9 upper level credits in Applied Professional/Free Electives.

I'm not much help for EC degree plans, but can I ask where you found a 4cr Physics w/lab without any prior math credit? I'm seriously asking because I'm looking for physics class - and if I understand your post, you have already taken it, can you share how it went? My physics book is over my head math-wise by the end of chapter 1. Thanks!

I believe that they are applied professional credits. I am leaning more towards DANTES exams now. My big problem was I needed tests for grade so I can raise my GPA and a previous poster suggested to look at the upgraded credit guide and I did and I saw quite a few! So, maybe ill take one nursing exam, for quick 8 credits. But cost wise its almost the same for DANTES as it is for the nursing exam. Thank you for pointing out the limit on Upper level though, I didnt know that.

Sorry this is in two, I wasnt sure how to quote 2 people on one reply.

I took my physics class at my local community college. It was a general physics class, no calculus. In high school (im 23) i took precalculus, and when I took the physics class, I was able to tell them that i had taken the math class before. At that community college, you can pretty much choose what you want to take, even if you dont have the neccessary pre reqs. You just talk to a professor, and usually they allow you. The physics class was tough, I took physics senior year of high school and pretty much made it through by the skin of my teeth. It was tough ( I got a C+ and really worked hard for that), but im not really a fan of physics. My suggestion is to take physics in person, it must be really tough to teach yourself. Check your local community college, because at least if you attend a school near where you live, you can always go to extra help with the professor or physics department or peer tutor. I always find extra help out of the classroom setting is very beneficial. Good Luck, I hope I helped you out.

Hi again!

As you know, Alissa brought up a great point. If you want a BALS, then all 30 UL credits need to be arts & sciences. If you want a BSLS, then 21 UL credits need to be arts & sciences and 9 UL credits can be applied professional.

3 of the graded DANTES UL are arts & sciences and 1 is applied professional.

Jennifer - I don't think this is what you are looking for, but the UExcel exam program is offering a 6 credit graded physics exam. UExcel - Exams
