How long did it take you to finish PreCalculus via ALEKS?

perserverance11 Wrote:It took me about 3 months and I started at about 12%. I finished last Thursday. Just work steadily.
Ugh man! That sucks. Well good news is that I *think* I can also take intermediate algebra to fulfill my UL for my BA Nat Sci & Mat, so that should be an easier/breezier time for me.

Unfortunately, none of the maths are upper level. Stats is 200 level though, so while not upper level it won't count as one of your 100 levels.

Woah now, don't get too caught up in instant gratification with ALEKS. For some people, they might remember what they did in highschool or have had reason to practice it (and maths needs to be practiced). Some other people here are in highschool and are getting their study/training directly.

In the worst case scenario, ALEKS can be completely self-contained because it's a learning suite, not just assessment. Like a CLEP, if you know the material inside out, you can knock it out in under an hour, if not, it might takes months to prepare.

Your best bet is to mix and match any and all sources to get a feel for the material covered in the various ALEKS courses. One way to think about it is like a musical instrument or driving assessment - if you've never done it before or for years then you will have to put the hours in to get to the right standard. You can definitely do it.

Big props to perserverance11 for the eponymous hard work Smile

I hadn't taken a college math course in about 20 years when I took Aleks beginning Algebra I think it took me about 30 hours of work. I had never taken a Stats class when I started that on Aleks I think that took me about 70 hours. at only 1.5 hrs per night it could take you some time to finish. Why not try to add 1/2 hour a day and maybe later another 1/2 hour per day. If you want to complete your degree by December 1.5 hours a day is not going to make it.

@ CollegeStudent 7, I am in the BSBA program at TESC. I went with taking the Trig instead of Precalc as they are interchangeable @ TESC. Aleks precalc is so hard. I literally could not get higher than around 60%. I passed the Trig in about 9 hours for the assessment with 70%.

I did Trig last summer. It almost killed me.

With the business stats I found that after about 40% complete I actually had to start taking notes (almost like a real class...) in order to get it and continue progressing. I actually like it, I'm generally an independent person and love that it shows me how to do something, and once I've got it I move on instead of spending forever on the same thing, where in a real class you do just that... repeat WAY too much.

CollegeStudent7 Wrote:Just curious. I started about 6 days ago and I still barely have 50 of the 389 topics covered..I think it's 389. I did an initial assessment and have been plugging along slowly..putting in an average of 1.5ish hours per day over last 6 days and others said they completed it in a night or a week...I feel like I have a long time coming.

I started studying ALEKS Precalc. But after a while, it was so tedious that I dumped it and started using CLEP Professor. Then I took and passed the CLEP.

Wow so many replies! THanks all. So basically now I am wondering what the terd I am doing with ALEKS if I want to get my B.A. in Natural Sciences and Mathematics and where those credits would even fit in (see in my signature for link to what I already have). This has been a really confusing journey for me, but each week I learn something new. I'm hoping I can apply these classes somewhere. I don't even mind if they are hard and take me a month each to finish..it's $20/month for college credits to earn a B.A. and ya can't beat that right?

If none of this stuff is going to count and I'm going to have a hard time earning my B.A. by winter, I wonder if I would have been better off going with Charter Oak. I know Charter Oak accepts ALL of your credits, but I wonder how many they will actually apply to your degree. I can't seem to keep up and each time I think I'm a step ahead I'm actually in the blue. Thanks for warning me in advance, all.
