I'm new here.  I have been trying to no avail to find out what Study.com's pricing is without having to FIRST give them my name, phone number, email address AND credit card number.  I just want information but there is no way (that I can find) to get it without answering every question they ask and clicking continue. I really wanted to know so I continued through all their steps, answering questions, giving info until I got to the credit card information.  By then I was fed up and quit. All I wanted to know was how much it costs so I can make a decision.  Why do they need all that from me?

Seems everyone wants your data these days... I could understand if I were on a site offering free services.  My data is the price I pay, but not for something like this.

Is this a new thing? Any suggestions?

https://study.com/academy/plans.html - Currently the College Accelerator (the one you need to take exams for credit) is $200 a month, that includes 2 exams, you can add additional exams within the month for $70 each after you complete the first two.  If you do not use those two exams in the month they do not carry forward.  Myself, I have never had an issue with not being able to complete the two exams (none have gone to 'waste').  I just commit to completing at least a  'chapter a day' and it goes along pretty quickly without being endless hours upon hours (or feeling that way - at least for most topics  Smile )

Hi Avila,

I'm also new to the whole things and I have a couple of questions if you don't mind.  Are the quizzes multiple choice or essay form? Did you ever take more than two exams per month?  Please let me know.

Sincerely,

GG

All the quizzes are multiple choice (as are the exams).  Normally I have only completed the two that came included in the month, however there were a couple of months I did more.  As I stated above, I never had a month that I was not able to do at least the two included (even if it meant doing the 2nd exam on the last day of the month).

Did this include doing two upper level courses per month? Which courses did you choose for those?

Thank you for answering!!!  I guess I'll sign up and give them my money.  Also, thank you for specifying that the exams are all multiple choice too.   That's what I meant to ask.  Have a wonderful day!!

When all is said an done I will have completed 15 course through study.com, most were LL and a few UL - I was always able to complete my exams in the month without issue for LL or UL.  It is not the LL or UL that 'takes time' it is the extra written project(s) for the UL that may spill over into the next month (you can take the exam first).

A good way to get a head start at a lower cost is to sign up for the Premium Edition (middle plan) for a month or two, start a few courses - take the quizzes (you can even view the extra assignments to know what they are) and then once you're comfortable with your speed and their course flow upgrade to the College Accelerator, then prep and take the exams for the courses you have finished.  I had taken half my courses without doing this (straight 2 a month route),  then took a break from them and took courses elsewhere for a few months - when I came back to Study.com I did this method, and it was nice to have a chance to be more casually paced at the lower cost. During that first month after I upgraded to the College Accelerator, I was able to take 4 exams (which goes to show I didn't really need the extra time)

I was just looking into Study.com's tiers to try things the low risk way. I don't handle monthly membership models well, and I want to limit the amount of possible wasted funds.

Am I correct in understanding that the Basic Edition ($39.99) ONLY gives access to the videos (not the quizzes), so in order to make progress on the course before I upgrade to the College Accelerator plan for the exams, that I would need to use the Premium Edition that's $59.99?

The college accelerator plan which enables you to take exams and earn credits costs 199 $/ month. I suppose the 59 $ plan does not allow proctored exams.

Since my Study.com account is closed I am prompted for reactivation when I log in, which provides the following details:

Basic Edition ($39.99/mo) includes:
  • Unlimited access to all video lessons
  • Lesson Transcripts
  • Tech support
Premium Edition ($59.99/mo) includes everything in Basic Edition, plus:
  • Practice quizzes & tests
  • Tools for tracking progress
  • Personalized coaching
  • Access to instructors
  • Certificates of Completion
  • Create Custom Courses
College Accelerator ($199.99/mo) includes everything in Premium Edition, plus:
  • Earn college credit
  • Take two exams per month
  • Finish official exams remotely
So, given the list above, it looks like you can take the quizzes and practice tests under the Premium Edition plan and then come back later with the College Accelerator plan to take the two free exams per month (and pay extra to take more).

Assuming Premium Edition gives access to all the same courses as College Accelerator and assuming that the quizzes & practice tests are the same, I'm still not sure that it makes a lot of sense. While there is some potential for a bit of cost savings, it seems overly cumbersome and leaves too much potential time for things to be forgotten between when they are learned and tested. So you'd need to factor in a spaced repetition review of old material while you're working on new stuff. That and the potential timing issues with switching account types could add some extra time and reduce efficiency.

In my personal experience as someone who has taken like ~20 SDC courses, I was able to average 4 courses a month by taking one at a time in sequence. The most I was able to complete in a single month is 6.

I'd argue that you can get through more courses going directly through College Accelerator. Your cost savings with Premium Edition will probably be less than you imagine since you'd need to study for at least a month or two before you could take any exams. Each month you spend preparing is one month you're adding $60 and missing out on getting any exams done. But your experience may vary from mine.

You are correct.  If you want to get a head start you can indeed sign up for the Premium Edition take courses and quizzes for a month or two then upgrade to the College Accelerator take the included two (or pay for even more) exams. I did this when I returned to Study.com; my time was just going to be limited for awhile and I knew I would not finish enough to take the two exams.  I never had reason to drop back down to Premium as that head start membership period was enough to always be a bit ahead and always able to finish two exams a month after that.

How is everyone liking Study.com so far? I really like it. I"m using it to study for the UExcel Cultural Diversity exam. I"m just using the $59 per month plan with videos and quizzes.
