Did you check the specific exam feedback? I have never taken this CLEP but CLEPs are multiple choice...also, maybe the petersons test can help you. Click on testing and education, CLEP prep and then whichever CLEP you're studying for. You'll need to create a username and password but it's free. I think there are 140 questions and you'll need a 50 to pass - the highest score is an 80... Good luck!

You'll need to allow yourself a minimum of one week study, a few hours a day. For Humanities, I would recommend 2-3 if you can, depending on your comfort-level with the topic. If you're the type of person that likes the arts and your idea of a good time is to go to a museum or watch a classic movie, or perhaps go to the theater, you'll have an easier time.

If your idea of fine arts is watching the Simpsons or reading TV Guide, then it's not impossible, you'll just need to study a lot more.

I agree with OP, you should go through the specific feedback forum; you'll find tons of advice. Even if you only have one test to do, I would recommend signing up for a month of IC. You'll get access to the specific feedback forum included and the IC cards for Humanities will be helpful.

The notes are just the IC cards written into a spreadsheet. I was in exactly the same boat as you and dreading this test. There's a good video series on Art of the Western world available to watch for free here:

Resource: Art of the Western World

There're one page summaries of Shakespeare plots and characters here:

Shakespeare Play Summaries: Brief Overviews Of The Plots Of Shakespeare's Plays

Add Dickens and Canterbury tales to this, work through the IC cards and read the specific feedback and you will pass.

Edit: Yes, it's multiple choice. Also consider briefly reviewing rhyming schemes here: Rhyme scheme - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (and Google for more accessible info).

If you find yourself really stuck for time, concentrate on the IC flashcards.

I'm also studying for the humanities exam. I'm using the instacert flash cards, the petersons online practice exams and I have the REA book with sample exams. The cards are great. I found the Petersons exams to be difficult. My highest practice score was a 68 so far. I also scored a 64 on the REA practice exam. I'm not sure how that score relates to the scaled scoring system though. In about a week I plan on taking the test.

I just took the Humanities CLEP today and passed with a 67. I will tell you that the flashcards are a HUGE help but there were still questions on the test that stumped me. My recommendation is to run through the flashcards as many times as possible - but also check out the Petersons CLEP Study Guide. It's an e-book that gives you the test breakdown, an outline of information you should know, and some practice tests with explanations. Questions that were presented by Petersons (and not IC) WERE on the CLEP exam I took today. I spent 80% of my study time on IC and 20% running through Petersons. I hope that helps! Good luck!!!

Marijoun,

Congrats, by the way. I can only imagine the relief of pressure off your shoulders. I have been looking at both IC and found a site online that allow's me to take Peterson's tests. Sounds like you found the Peterson's to be more helpful. Is this fair to assume? Also, how many hours do you figure you logged in study time? Thanks and I appreciate your feedback.

Honestly? I'm a serious procrastinator. So, I would say probably 8-10 hours of running through the flashcards? I always tell myself I'm going to spend a week studying, and then the day of the test I'm running through flashcards as though my degree depended on it (haha). I think the Peterson tests complement IC very well. I don't feel like I *learn* anything from Peterson; however, it gives me a great feel for where I stand AND gives me further insight into the information I need to know. I hope this helps! Good luck!!
