There are two versions of this exam: the CLEP Info Systems and Computer Applications and DSST Introduction to Computing.

I used the audio files and took the DSST Intro to Computing and I found the info to be on point for a pass! You can also review the feedback on the specific feedback thread. I'm sure by using both (Flashcards & Feedback) you will secure a great score!

If you are a good test taker, the CLEP isn't hard at all. I didn't have an opportunity to study for it except for the 1/2 hour between my Sociology CLEP and when this test started. Honestly, I went into it having NO IDEA what an information system is, and still don't, but passed with a 69 (I haven't decided whether or not I am proud of this feat).

The best advice I can gice you is DON'T PANIC. All of the questions are written in a way that intends to confuse you. If you stay calm, you will be able to see which answers sound the most logical, even if you don't understand all of the terminology.

I had the same experience with no studying. I have never taken any formal computer courses and all of the stuff I know is just things I have picked up throughout my life from using computers. It seemed like a reasonable basic test for computer knowledge.

I found it helpful to study all 3 sets of flashcards (Intro to Computing DSST, Information Systems & Computer Applications CLEP, Management Information Systems DSST) to prepare for this CLEP. (It is not just about memorizing the answer, but also understanding the explanations.)

Note: Some schools do not accept all 3 exams. Excelsior does for liberal arts students.

Yes, the test is pretty archaic. Its the easiest one I have taken. As long as you study the Instacert you should be fine. Normally I download the PDF from collegeboard.com as a supplement since some of the exact questions show up on the exam, but you probably won't need that for CIS.

Having the individual study guides as a PDF is a nice option. If you are planning to take several CLEP exams, it is less expensive to buy the official study guide book for all of the exams versus $10 for the individual PDF guides.

Either way, the official study guide is the best way for me to determine when I am ready to take a CLEP exam.

I don't understand why anyone would need this book. There isn't a single bit of information in it that isn't also on the college board's website (word-for-word). The practice questions aren't very much different than the free ones that can be taken from Peterson's.

The official practice questions are only available through the $10 downloadable guides or the complete book.

For me, the best way to make sure I am ready for an exam is to take as many practice exams as possible, after I have worked through other study materials. I save the official CLEP guide to take as my last practice exam. (I have found it to be the most accurate as far as sample questions compared to the real tests.) Then I have a final review.

Practice exams are my favorite part of this process. I like to test how well I am learning the subject.

Having the book has also helped me to find other subjects to try, such as American Government. Seeing samples of the content and questions made me more interested in taking the exam than I would have been through just looking at a list of subjects.

I'd rather spend $25 on the complete book than $10 on each pdf.
