Modern States - still free?
#11
Also, I emailed Whitney earlier. According to her, they still have vouchers and there is no limit on how many courses one person can take.

To clarify, it's 10,000 tests, not 10,000 students.

Is there an expiration date to the vouchers? Also, can one schedule CLEPs far out, using these vouchers (like a year from now)?

No idea, but I do want to mention that you have to pass the online course before they will send you a voucher.  Seriously, if you took the course but then scheduled the test for a year out, I think you would forget everything you learned to pass the test by then.

Looking at my voucher sheet, it looks like you can take the CLEP up to 6 months after you use the voucher.

We have had a lot of trouble with this.  I had my two request vouchers back in June for a test after they completed the appropriate course via Modern States.  We did not hear from Whitney for almost a week.  By that time we had taken the test (one of mine was leaving the country for a month and wanted to take the test before leaving).  We are still waiting to be reimbursed.  We had a similar issue with a test taken in August, still waiting on that voucher.  Also, I believe Whitney is no longer there as someone else is now responding to our e-mails.

Are the emails still coming from Whitney's address? I just completed a course with Modern States yesterday and emailed to ask for the voucher, but sent my request to Whitney's email. If there is another person I should/could be contacting instead, I'd love to know. Thanks for your insight!

I've been getting emails recently from Sadie Glenn (sadie@modernstates.org) if that helps.

Also, I think they're trying to move to a web form instead of directly emailing people:

I believe you would be able to test 6-9 months after getting the voucher, depending on when in the quarter you receive it, if you waited until the voucher was near expiring and waited until your ticket was near expiring. Possibly up to 12 months.

Although they have the forms, I believe the test center reimbursement is not faster. It seems like after you upload your receipt, they will still manually email you asking for your score report. In one case I was emailed weeks later. I bet they don't start the 4-6 weeks for reimbursement until after getting the score report. I feel like it's quite slow for today's digital age, and they should just ask for the score report right away, but it's also a great opportunity for people without a deadline.

I'm also not sure if they reimburse if you don't get at least 50 for the score? I don't plan to find out Smile

I'm pretty sure you won't get reimbursed if you fail. I don't plan on finding out either ;-)
