This is helpful during an interview, but you must advance through screening. An elite diploma will help you with this.

The post was about more than the technical interview stages, it's the whole process. My point is that the strategy needs to be comprehensive. Spending years and tens of thousands of dollars to earn a piece of paper so that you're more likely to get screened? There must be far more efficient approaches. It's easy to get caught up in the thinking of "if I only had X, I could do Y" when in reality, it's all negotiable.

Brown University is now planning to launch new online master's programs – subjects currently unspecified, some adapted from existing on-campus programs, some not – to diversify its revenue in the face of a budget deficit.

I don't see any reason why one can not get a B1/B2 Visitor/Tourist visa and attend the short on-campus session. AFAIK B1/B2 visas can be used for attending short conferences/training programs, as long as one is not monetarily benefiting (aka working) in the USA during the visit.

Citizens of less developed countries generally have difficulty obtaining tourist visas to visit highly developed countries. This is the reason a student visa is so prized.

I was looking into these but the cost is quite high. Something like 80K if I remember correctly.

My Dad went to Brown, and loved it so much that he and my Mom named me after the Episcopal church on campus that he attended while there. I'm basically a social experiment on what happens when you raise someone from infancy to feel warmly towards Brown University.

But wow, even I wouldn't consider these programs at those prices.

Considering it's an Ivy, it's not as bad as most would think. The MSOL is 45K. I've seen far more expensive Master's degrees than that. The MiM is 60K, and I've seen a few MSNs at that price at virtually unknown schools.
