Pierpont to Charge $130 Fee for BOG Degree
#1
According to a few members of a FB group I'm in regarding Alt Credits, it seems that Pierpont is now charging $130  "new student fee" starting this Fall. So it may not be a "free" BOG degree anymore.

Hmm, well, it's cheaper than the $300 that was mentioned in a previous thread for 'evaluation of credits'. It's still the cheapest, easiest, fastest, and probably the only Associates for under $300 total (fee plus transcripts), and it's the only one that allows 100% transfer... Someone should check with WVNCC and the other colleges there, I remember emailing the entire set of 9 colleges and WVNCC mentioned they bumped the residency from 3 to 15, and also subsequently mentioned there are no residency requirements... so, someone should update us!

This is incorrect. They are inadvertently looking at the portfolio submission application for Life Experience.  I'd get your information from Degree Forum, unless you have a direct e-mail from Nancy, that shows explicitly her stating this.

FB group members have shared screenshots of emails from N. Parks about the assessment of the "new student fee" of $130 for BOG applicants. Post # 1 in the thread has a screenshot of one such email.

Again, Pierpont is an amazing deal even with the cost involved. The original thread in regards to Pierpont no longer free, it's referencing a Portfolio cost of $300 and that's what my original reply was in regards to... This is different than the "new student fee of $130". I think there are changes because of the sheer number of "freebies" provided over the last few years, they can't sustain the freebies without paying out of their funds to get things evaluated and degrees mailed/sent out for FREE. I would have thought they it may have been sooner they would make the BOG no longer free, but it took them like 5-6 years to decide to implement this $130 to pay for their costs that are racking up... I'm in the group as well and have seen the screenshots. I will also be a part of the Dec. graduating class. While I haven't gotten any correspondence from Ms. Parks on the new student fee, I don't see what the problem is. We've paid our previous colleges, Sophia, Study.com, Arizona State, etc.

Ms. Parks is the lone advisor for the BOG program, and that's a lot of work for anyone, especially when I can only assume that as this information about the degree has gotten out more, there's been a higher influx of folks coming in. Again, it hasn't been confirmed with me via email yet, but if that's the case, I have no problem paying it.

While a shame that it will no longer be free, $130 is still exceedingly cheap for an Associate degree. Nowhere else even comes close to that.

I repeat my response below from another thread... https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Forum-P...es-Degrees

'A fee of $130 for them to process all the (alternative) transcripts is not unrealistic or extreme. It is still cheaper than the $300 single credit course folks here used to have to take with Pierpont in order to get a transcript. There is still no way to get an associate degree cheaper (especially one with so many concentration options). I'm surprised it took this long to apply some sort of fee, the money to pay Nancy Parks (& other staff), the mail processing of awarded degrees, etc - someone needs to pay for it. There is no valid reason the taxpayers of WV should be paying for 'our' degrees we earn through methods used on this forum; unless of course, one was actually from VW (which I'm certain is the rare recipient from this forum). Hopefully this fee allows them to at least break even on the BOG AAS - I would hate to see it go away.'

I couldn’t agree more. There’s so much everyone is getting for free, and let’s be honest, they’re still giving us a sweet deal on this.

Just to confirm, the $130 new student fee is now listed on their website:

https://www.pierpont.edu/cost-aid/cost/tuition/

Still a good deal, and I'm happy to pay that.  Now, if they would just process my transcripts quicker... lol
