Not to mention, you could always choose not to send the score to your school if you don't like the results. However, if you fail, you cannot retake a CLEP exam for like 3 months.

Also, so you know... most schools don't count transfer credit into your institutional GPA anyway; that is based only on work you have done specifically at the school. If the GPA earned at other schools (from transferred credits–which includes CLEP) shows up on your transcript at all, it will usually be listed as a separate line item or be calculated into a cumulative GPA line item. Because transfer credits are not part of the institutional GPA at your current college, they should not impact things like academic standing, etc. Also, failed CLEPS and failed ACE course don't appear on your transcript at all.

Ok, thank you! I'm sending my scores to TESU. Let's say my scores are "calculated into a cumulative GPA line item"  What number do my transcript Clep scores have to be to get a 3.0 GPA? 60, 70?

The passing score for each exam varies by specific exam, there isn't a universal cut line. Either way, it doesn't convert to a GPA, its either PASS or FAIL. Back when I first started taking CLEP and DSST exams the exams did convert to a grade, but as far as I know, that hasn't been a thing in like 10 years.

TESU doesn't report the scores for CLEP (or any other alternative credit) at all, so you don't have to worry about that.

Well, lets say you want to get a job that requires 3.0 GPA, do they just not count it then? How exactly does that work?

It'd be up to the employer, but TESU does not count any transferred credit towards your GPA.

Some types of credit is considered "non-graded credit". This means it appears on a transcript simply as "CR/CREDIT" or "PASS" and those credits are simply ignored when GPA is calculated.

Of course, if you are transferring to another school or applying for a job that wants to see transcripts for GPA purposes, chances are they will calculate their own version of your GPA. Most will probably just ignore the non-graded credits like the schools do, however, they could ask for transcripts from the alternate credit providers as well so they may establish a GPA equivalency for those non-graded courses based on % scored in the course.
