What age did you move out?
#11
I moved out at 16, while I was still in high school. My mom and I just didn't get along - at all. We've gotten along really well literally from the day I moved out, so while it was challenging, it was the right decision.

Now I encourage my kids to stay at home as long as they want to and take advantage of free room and board. No reason to pay for it and try to study. My older kids are 19 and 23. My 19 -year-old is a student at the local State U and she walks to campus from our house, which is less than a mile away. (Why pay for dorms?) She's pre-med so has opted not to use testing for her undergrad. My 23 year old has been mentioned in other threads, but he's been studying and trying to find his way for years. They both help out quite a bit to "pay" for their room and board. I haven't done dishes or mowed the lawn in years, and not to mention it's great to have them here for their younger siblings, 9 and 11.

Overall, having lived both extremes, I would recommend having kids live at home for longer as long as they're productive and the situation is beneficial to all. Life is expensive so hopefully this gives them a head start. Plus our family life is wonderful. Wouldn't change it for the world. It's a shame I didn't get to experience that as a young adult.

My youngest is only 19 and she has no intentions of moving out. She’s in college. Works a lot and is saving her money. She wants to purchase not rent. She wants to own properties as part of her multi stream income. God love her.

I stayed home for quite sometime with my parents. We had a horse stable which I was very involved with and honestly it made the most sense. But I owned my first home at 26 years of age.

Left home at 18, quit school at 21, became a cop and got my own place. Now, just at 25, I left my home (Los Angeles County, CA) to pursue a career in the military. I miss home but it's probably because I'm living in Lower Alabama now lol.
