rickyjo Wrote:I'm having difficulty discerning what are suggestions and what are requirements. Are all mentions of specific classes just suggestions? Does the little disclaimer at the bottom apply to the whole list or just the focus? If that's the case than this is a very viable option and would cost sooo much less. FEMA wouldn't cost anything, more of my ALEKS work would be applied, I wouldn't have to take information literacy (why does EC do that to use?!) and could just take the two SL English courses and be done with it.
That. Would. Be. Awesome.
If any of those recommended classes are actually required classes I'm screwed, but if I'm reading it correctly, that's not the case.
I also see no mention of a requirement to be working in the field (which is good because I'm not).
Thanks for finding that link for me!
OH, and I would be better off at TESC than EC if I wanted to pursue a 4 year degree.
It does mention a practicum, so maybe you do need to have some actual experience in the field . I think you need to check this out with TESC, perhaps it would be worth the fee ( is it $75 ?? ) to have them give you an official answer.
I just found this link , it might help you
https://ssl.tesc.edu/practicum.php After reading that , it appears to me you do need some real life work experience in this field for this degree.

I thought I read that somewhere. I was hoping my memory was in error. Oh well, the EC degree is a perfect alternative anyway.
Thanks so much for putting in the time!

This is what I got my AA in and it all was just redistributed and reused for my BA in Science and Math. I think you could use all your ALEKS and Straiterline courses and 12 Fema and have this done with just the English comp classes or CLEP

Another thing to think about:
$75 Application fee (plus transcript fees)
$895 Enrollment fee
$495 Graduation fee
These are the current prices at Excelsior. I don't know if they will be changing on July 1st.
I am not sure how this compares to TESC or any other options, but you can add it to your considerations.

It's far cheaper than TESC I'm horrified to say.

Sad day. Straighterline English comp will somehow duplicate AP English literature @ EC. My SL plan just exploded.
I'm going to have to find a method of getting humanities other than SL. I think CLEP may be the only way. *du-du-dah*. She also thought AP language would duplicate, much to my annoyance.

That is disappointing, but I'm glad you have a definite answer.
How are you at reading a story or poem and answering a few questions about them?
This is the A&I Lit CLEP. It is just a reading comprehension exam. I wouldn't say it is an easy test, but it is easy to get prepared. I think you could get yourself ready to take it in less than 2 weeks. You can send the score for free to the school of your choice. It is 6 credits for $72. After 90 minutes of reading, you are done.

I may have to give it a shot. 6 credits for that price is about right. I passed the AP lit test without taking the class (I took it later). That was mostly analyzing both pros and poetry. I was very good at English in high school (I took both the AP English classes), it sounds like a test I could do.
I know I don't need to, but I'm considering taking the computer apps test anyway. That way I could get a feel for CLEP with higher probability of passing. Then hopefully I'll have the "win" mentality that could get me to pass something like this.
I guess I shouldn't be too bummed out, it's not like I really lost any progress.
Thanks for the continued attention and encouragement. I know I've been silly in my stubbornness with this CLEP thing. After all, it's my only real chance at a 4 year degree after this.

Wait. Isn't this test also very similar to AP English Literature? I probably have to call Excelsior again, don't I.... *sigh*
