In on of the treads someone said one can completely test out at TESC. Is that by using EC credits? It doesn't appear that TESC actually has enough courses to test out of to get a BS/BA, or am I missing something?
I'm enrolled at EC and have lots of UL credits I need with so many of my LL credits not being used. TESC doesn't require as many UL credits as EC?
I completed tested out of a Social Sciences degree with TESC, so I know it's possible, and I bet you could do it with a BSBA, too. You might have to take some TECEPs (which there are, what, nine for business?), but a combination of those and DSST tests, I bet you could pull it off.
Based on what you said I took a more in-depth tour of the site and they offer a BALS of which only 18 UL credits are required. I've figured out that, if they took all my credits from everywhere (there are lots, I'd maybe save myself from taking 2 courses - about the cost of my annual fee. Since I don't have a capstone with EC either, I think I'll save myself the hassle of switching schools, getting transcripts etc. But if hadn't already paid my application and annual fee, I'd seriously consider TESC.
Ironic, I'm from CT. Just as an aside, I wonder if one can test out at COSC?
If you are enrolled for the BSLS at EC already, that is their most flexible degree program. You should be able to use exams for the rest of your credits, especially if you enrolled before the capstone requirement (7/1/2010). EC recently increased the number of DSST exams that count as UL; that is really good news for a lot of students.
COSC requires 2 courses - a cornerstone and capstone for their bachelor's degrees.
TESC's psychology program is one you can test out of and I'm sure a social science degree is even easier to test out of. You can test out of the liberal studies program too. If I remember correctly, you can test out of a BSBA in General Management if you choose management as the area of study. You just have to combine TECEPs, CLEPs, DSSTs, and ECEs.
If there isn't already a similar thread, I'll start a new thread detailing how you can test out of different programs. I can tell you that there is a good chance that TESC will be much more flexible with your credits. Excelsior rejected half of my credits for their Criminal Justice program while TESC applied all of them and COSC downgraded all of my UL credits. I chose to switch to the social science program at TESC since it's easier to test out of that program, but I had two other options without losing any credits: psychology and liberal studies.
I am surprised that your credits did not transfer well to EC. I was under the impression that they have a generous transfer policy. Do you have any idea why you lost so many credits?
I can think of some possibilities, but I really don't know what could have happened.
--Their majors have 10 specific requirements to meet. Even if this is the reason that they did not count, shouldn't they have counted as electives toward the degree at least?
--The credits weren't ACE approved.
--They set those credits aside to evaluate further when you enroll.
Any other guesses?
Anyway, I am glad that you found a program that meets your needs at the Big 3.
Does anyone know where I can get a list of what DSST exams that EC now accepts for UL? Is ACE up-to-date? I found only these as UL: MIS, Civil War, Business Ethics and Substance Abuse. I did request approval for Sub. Abuse. I'd hope they'd accept TESC's "Psyc of Women" exam but it's EC considers it LL.
I will be able to test out of a EC in LS with dephs in Psych, Biology and Heath Professions. I think I'll need to choose 2 only and I've already satisfied the requirements for Bio. I can take the Psyc/Mental Health Nursing (8 UL credits)and satisfy the requirements for Health Professions. But that still leaves me needing only UL credits and they'll be Psyc and Soc exams, giving me the Psych depth.
TESC is too expensive to warrant changing schools when I'd only save myself 2 exams. And I can take both for only $95 each.
There should be 12 UL DSST exams now. We are waiting for the new Student Guide to Credit by Exam to have the official list of UL DSST credits. In the mean time, you can download last year's guide here: https://www.excelsior.edu/469

1. Excelsior's CJ major was too specific for my courses to fit anywhere. All of my credits were from regionally accredited schools.
2. They had set aside a few more my courses for further evaluation, but even if those courses were accepted, it would have only brought me up to 30-something credits while COSC and TESC accepted 51. I was most especially turned off by the fact that I would have to pay an enrollment fee to get a full evaluation. TESC gave me two just for the application fee. Not that I'm downing Excelsior; it just wasn't the best school for my situation.
I can't edit my post, so I'll add the attachment for my SS degree plan here. Almost entirely tested out on, with the exception of two humanties classes which just as easily could have been filled in for the Humanities CLEP.
Plus, I did CLEPs/DSST instead of FEMA for free electives.
