I can't recall who posted it before but someone here mentioned that once you are able to complete Beginning Algebra, you should be able to get through Intermediate relatively easily because of the amount of review and overlap. I found this to be true and was able to finish Intermediate in 2 days!
Not too bad for a complete math-phobe like myself. I am going to try College Algebra next and then on the Precalc.
I was wondering if any of you had suggestions for websites or software (like Algebrator) that would be helpful once I start down the Statistics route? Unfortunately for me, Stats will be my next big hurdle after what I expect to be the "Precalc debacle".
Thanks to all of you! Have a great day.

Here is the exact question you need to ask " can you please help me locate the college policy that applies to my degree concerning maximum mathematics credit"
If there is a cap, ok, but how come no one here has ever stumbled upon that rule? If there isn't a cap, then they are overflowing your math into gen eds which is overflowing into your free electives...and possibly those are full like bricabrack found. BUT, if they are not full- then there needs to be a darn good reason why ACE evaluated Math credit is not being included in your degree.
The fun just never stops! LOL
This is the response i got from the school today and when i called i was left on hold for 20 minutes then they hung up.
You should have received an email from Dr. Garry Keel on 10/29/09 regarding this matter. Pre-calc is a combination college algebra and trigonometry. If we accepted a pre-calc class already the trig class will duplicate there's too much overlap. A duplicate courses is not acceptable in any area of your evaluation.
Best regards,
So more or less they told me to kiss it..

From what I've seen of the Peterson's practice exams, looks like you want to be somewhere in the 55-60 percent finished range on Aleks before you tackle the CLEP. Not just because of material covered, but it looks like by the time you reach that point in Aleks you'll probably have mastered most of your typos and math errors well enough to survive a rushed 90-minute exam.
There's a post from another user now that says he spent even MORE time to get ready for the CLEP:
ideafx Wrote:I used ALEKS to study for the College Algebra CLEP. It took me 230+ hours to complete the entire pie (took up all my free time for 5 weeks), but I passed with a 60 and actually knew algebra well enough to begin studying for the calculus CLEP.

I do not think they are telling you to kiss it, rather to me they are saying they can not grant you credit because of duplication.
Exactly which Aleks courses did they give credit for and which did they not give you credit for ?

Well they gave me credit for beg alg I and II and college alg, intro to stats and pre-cal, the rest were no good in the roster of courses i took at aleks. Which is fine but i really did think they would have trickled down even into free electives. I mean hell, they take femas for free electives but they cant take my trig.
And i think it was more their attitude that made me feel like they were telling me to kiss it. They just really dont care if someone is a student or not. I have a weird feeling that this school will have major changes to admin staff over the next few years. I cant see students continuing to allow this kind of attitude before the board see's a drop in enrollment. I mean im not the only one stating that this is how they act. I have seen it many times over on this board and others.
Oh well no biggy ill just refresh, study and take 1 or 2 cleps more and im done.
Just got my epac and trying to figure out what to study there.

I was just wondering: Do they say that CLEP Algebra and Pre-Calculus are duplicate credit exams?

TESC ALEKS evaluation
001 Beginning Algebra- MAT102
002 Intermediate Algebra- MAT115
003 College Algebra- MAT121 *TESC Duplicate College Algebra w/trig
004 College Algebra with Trig- MAT121 *TESC Duplicate College Algebra
005 PreCal- MAT129 *TESC Dulplicate Trig
006 Trig- MAT129 *TESC duplicates PreCal
007 Intro Stats- STA201
008 Business Stats- OPM351
009 Stats for Beh. Science- STA199
Based on the above, I can understand the duplication they mentioned to you on everything except Stats for Behav. Science, as that is listed as STA199 ( which is LL) and Intro Stats-STA201 is (UL) as Tesc counts 200 level as upper level. Since they granted credits to others for both of those ALEKS courses, this one confuses me. Unless, they have recently changed their policy on stats courses. I know Excelsior will only accept one, as they consider the other Aleks Stats as duplication of credit.
I hope you figure out what is needed for the E-Pac and congrats on being so close to being done.
In regards to the customer service, since they have made changes to their programs and are requiring more upper level 300 & 400 courses, I think to avoid losing students to Excelsior or COSC, they may need to become a bit more student friendly.

I know this can be frustrating, but nj, you are the one blazing this trail Really, you were the first person here to go through the whole series, so all that we are learning about duplication and credit with TESC is because of you. I hope that makes you feel better- (that, and look how much math you know man!!?!?!!)
Ok, so based on nj's experience and all of what we learned- it looks as if there are a few possible math tracks for max credit at TESC. This sequence should yield 18 credits without duplication in the Natural Sciences and Math area- which will overflow into General Education Electives which will overflow into Free Electives.
001 Beginning Algebra- MAT102, 3 credits
002 Intermediate Algebra- MAT115, 3 credits
003 College Algebra- MAT121 or 004 College Algebra with Trig- MAT121, 3 credits
006 Trig- MAT129 or 005 PreCal- MAT129 , 3 credits
007 Intro Stats- STA201, 3 credits
009 Stats for Beh. Science- STA199, 3 credits
Taking 003 AND 004 will duplicate, both will not count in any way.
Taking 005 AND 006 will duplicate, both will not count in any way.

I just wanted to second what Cook said here. Thanks, NJ, for going through this and sharing the info with the rest of us. For what it's worth - we really appreciate it. Having just finished two Aleks courses myself, it is so helpful to know what I can/should take next.
And to vent just a teensy bit - it is taking Ace forever to credit my first course!!! It was "approved" on 11/16/09 and still not credited yet. Ok, maybe not forever, but still a long time. I mean 6 days in "Clep time" is like a year, right? Thanks, I feel better now.
Again, NJ you are really helping a lot of people here so thanks. And, you too Cook! You are doing a great job compiling and reporting all of the info. What a terrific team you guys make.
