Are the following exams still considered UPPER LEVEL?
-Business Ethics and Society
-Business Law II
-Management Information Systems (currently working on this one)
-Money and Banking
-Principles of Finance
-The Civil War and Reconstruction
-Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union
21 credits
*I guess I have to use three ECEs for the rest of my uppers. I can walk in to take DSSTs, I can't do that with ECEs!* :ack:
Not Upper Level at EC
-Introduction to World Religions
-Criminal Justice
-Ethics in America
Hopefully these are upper for UMUC. I reallly hope I didn't waste my time.

Your list looks correct. (Plus Substance Abuse is UL Applied Professional, but you already have the 9 credit maximum in that category.)
Have you considered ALEKS Stats for 3 UL credits at EC?
Are you required to take a capstone course? This is 3 UL and is required by enrolling after July 1, 2010 in the school of Liberal Arts.
There is at least one 6 credit ECE.
It is certainly not good news, but you never know when you will need those extra credits.

What is ALEKS? I think I need a capstone if I don't have a minor. If possible, I want a BSLS with a computing minor. I will be taking classes at UMUC too. I signed up for BIOL301.

ALEKS ( ALEKS -- Assessment and Learning, K-12, Higher Education, Automated Tutor, Math) is a self-paced individualized learning program for math. It is $20 for a one-month subscription. The credits will be on an ACE transcript ($40 for first). There are several large threads on the forum about it. I don’t know if UMUC will take the credits, too.
Bio301 should count as UL at EC as long as it doesn’t mention "Intro".

I’m not sure what this means. I’d like to know more about this, if you have/get more info. My understanding of the new capstone course requirement is that ALL Liberal Arts students (majors and non-majors) are required to take it, if they enrolled after July 1, 2010. It does count toward the 30 UL credit requirement.
Have you enrolled at EC already? If so, when and which program did you choose?
If you are getting a minor in computing, that means 15 LL and 6 UL credits at EC (called Area of Focus). Those UL credits will count toward your total. You could then take one of the Applied Professional DSSTs (Business Law or Finance) off of your list. I’d like to know for my own degree plan – What are you planning to use for the 6 UL credits in computing, MIS and what?
It is a lot to juggle the requirements at two schools! Please let me know, if you have more questions about EC.

I just noticed that your first degree was through CCAF. Does that change your requirements at EC regarding English (WER), Capstone, anything else?

I have not enroll to Excelsior yet. I am a single mommy of an awesome lil gyrl and gotta use my money wisely. I was looking at the fees with EC it will be wise if I wait toward the end when I test out most of them. With G I Bill I can only use one school at a time. I was told freshman comp and college comp will not work for the WER! According to the website and sheet I downloaded and the AU-ABC that BULL. Ummm.....FIX THAT! Now I and trying to figure out how many ECEs I have to complete. :annoyed:

I am studying MIS right now. I am only using the MIS IC. I hope it's enough!
My goal right now are to test only upper level exams.

Hey BurnieGirl,
me and you are in like identical situations.
Im getting my BSLS w/ no major at Excelsior, but I haven't enrolled yet.
My lil strategy is to just take all the DSSTs on the list from the Air Force testing center. If you fail a couple of em, it's all good cuz as long as you're not enrolled yet to Excelsior, you can have Prometric (the DSST operators) send Excelsior JUST the ones you passed when you do enroll.
Once you got the list of tests youve done and got UL credits for, look into other options like the above mentioned ALEKS - if you havent checked it out already, its basically just an at home intro to stats course you can do at home that if you applied yourself you could get done with it in a few days - then have ACE send over the transcripts to Excelsior and they should count it as UL. If youve already done a LL stats course, tell Excelsior to throw that one out and replace it with the ALEKS course when it comes in. I havent done this yet, but I asked an admissions counselor at Excelsior if that was possible and she said it should be.
Anyway - and depending on how many credits you got left, you could look into a couple of Penn Foster courses or take a couple ECE exams - but im pretty much 99% sure you will have to take a capstone course. Which is all right i guess cuz thatll remove 3UL that you wouldve otherwise had to worry about.
Anyway - ive been on this forum for tons of hours reading everybody's lil hints and manevuers and stuff, so hit me a PM if you want and i can try to answer all your preguntas.
Since we're in the same situation and branch and all that, i figure if you got a question and i dont know it, ill look it up for you cuz itll probably apply to me too.
-Kevin Cathy

What you are attempting to do is very tricky and requires knowing the policies at each school very thoroughly. Transferring schools always has complications and trying to earn 2 degrees from 2 different schools with credits from a previous degree definitely adds to the level of planning necessary.
You have the advantage of the agreement through EC that allows you to transfer your whole degree and only need 60 credits to finish a Bachelorâs.
I looked at the degree plan you posted here:
http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...#post86044
According to the HRM chart (thanks for sharing those), you should have 34 Arts & Science credits from your AA degree, 12 Business credits, and 14 Applied Professional (free elective) credits. Where are those in your plan?
A typical BSLS student is now required to take a capstone course and 2 depths. The capstone course may be too new for these HRM and BSLS charts. The Area of Focus is in place of one depth, but I donât know why it doesnât mention a second depth. (Is it not required for you? Is it just for the sake of simplicity of the chart?) A typical student also has more flexibility in the General Education Requirements than what the charts are showing.
To see what a typical student needs, here is a degree plan template for a BSLS:
http://www.degreeforum.net/62322-post10.html
If you would like, I can try to help you with a degree plan. I do have some areas that I am concerned about, like the 2 Freshman Composition CLEPs:

There is a lot I donât know about transferring from CCAF to EC and UMUC. I would highly recommend that you find someone who knows how to help you with this. ECâs website mentions the âAir Force Virtual Education Centerâ. Do you have access to that? I also assume that several people on this forum have transferred from CCAF to EC successfully.
Even applying to EC and getting an unofficial evaluation would be helpful to you. Since you are getting so close to finishing and each choice becomes more important to make correctly. This would show you which requirements you have and have not completed.
Iâm glad to see Kevinâs offer. Going through this process with someone else is very helpful!
