Thomas Edison People! Help!!!
#1
Good. The title got your attention.
Anyway, im in no immediate danger, but thanks for checking.
I do however have some questions that do need answering if it is all possible.

First off – my story. I want a bachelor's degree – plain and simple. I don't care what it's in. It could be a BSBS, Bachelor's of Science in BS.

Anyway, I have over 100something LL credits and currently 12UL credits at the 300/400level.

I keep hearing that TESC will accept 200 level courses for UL credit. But I also heard that they recently changed their policy saying that they now require 18 of the UL credits be 300-400.

If that’s true, I can accept that. But does that still mean that 12 of the required 30UL can be 200 level courses?

And if so, what CLEP/DSSTs are 200 and will be taken as upper level from TESC?

I know the standard 8 DSSTs that are 300/400: (Business Ethics, BS Law II, Finance, Rise & Fall, Civil War, Substance Abuse, MIS, Money & Banking).

Now if I fail the next few DSSTs that I can take, will TESC accept Penn Foster's ACE upper level approved courses such as Cost Accounting and Securities and Investments.

And does TESC accept the ALEKS stats course for a Liberal Studies degree as UL like how Excelsior does?

AND: is there a capstone requirement for a Liberal Arts degree at TESC.

So lets review, shall we:

1) Is it true that TESC now requires that 18 of the 30UL credits required be 300/400 level?
2) What CLEP/DSSTs are 200 and will be accepted as UL from TESC?
3) Will TESC accept Penn Foster's UL courses?
4) Does TESC accept ALEKS stats course as UL like Excelsior?
5) Is there a capstone requirement for a Liberal Arts degree at TESC?
6) For those that have gone to TESC, what was your general experience? I heard their customer service sucks and theyre super expensivo. But if you have all the credits complete beforehand, then you could just pay the enrollment and graduation fee and be done with their @$$. I'll do that if its at all possible.

First of all, here is TESC's credit distribution for a BA in Liberal Studies. And here you can see how they classify each CLEP and DSST.

I will try an answer as many of your questions as I can.

1). From the page I linked above " A maximum of two college-level courses equating to the 100 level can be applied toward the liberal studies area of study. A minimum of 18 credits equating to 300 or 400 Thomas Edison State College are required." That's out of a total of 33 in your area of study btw.

2)Look at the second page I linked. It gives you all the course titles for cleps and dssts.

3) I have not done anything with Penn Foster, so I have no idea.

4) ALEKS Intro to Statistics is listed as STA-201 on my evaluation.

5) Quoted from first page linked: "LIB-495 Liberal Arts Capstone strongly recommended." So not a requirement, but they want you to do it.

6) I have actually had good experiences with customer service. My only complaint is that they are slow processing transcripts and stuff like that. I really don't know about the money. I am 16, so my mom does all that. Wink They are happy to pay for it b/c its a ton cheaper then if I were going to "normal" college. Also, if you don't already know this, you only get a gpa for the courses you take a TESC. So if you want a gpa, you need to take at least one class.

youre right about the price too - although a couple grand sounds like a lot its way better than most of my friends who got $30,000 owed to student loans and stuff.

Great post, rmroberts; really useful.

It appears TESC are evaluating the CLEP Principles of Management/Marketing as 300-level courses? That's interesting, for sure.
