How Ready Am I?

$20 is a fantastic price for what you get here. It drives me nuts that people would steal this material.
To correct you, I did pay for the material. I split it the price with my friend so we each paid $10 for the study guide.

One person is supposed to use one subscription, so while you still paid you and your friend cheated IC out of at least $20. If you could afford the $10 then why not pay another $10 for a full subscription? I can understand wanting the flash cards in a printed form and in my view you could have gotten them from your friend IF you and your friend had a full subscription. I'm not trying to bash you, just show you the error of your way.

Well that wasn't in the IC fine print, atleast my friend did not tell me about anything like that. I am sure quite a few people do the same thing as my friend and I. If I knew it was "wrong" I wouldn't have done it and I would have bought the whole subscription. I understand you not trying to bash me, I just hope you understand where I am coming from.

I think that if you had applied a little common sense or ethics to this you would have seen the problem. Just because it wasn't in the fine print and a lot of people do it doesn't make it right.

This is actually a good question. I was under the impression that, say, one household could share a subscription. I haven't shared mine, but if my son were old enough to take CLEP exams, we probably would have used just one account. I would assume that there are several families here who are doing exactly that. If this is not the case, I am sure there are several here who would like clarification on this. No one here wants to pirate copyrighted materials, especially unintentionally, at least I know I don't.

Separate households sharing a subscription is another matter altogether. I don't remember there being any rule against it, but it doesn't seem to be good form. At least this person claims to have split the cost. I don't think G Stone had bad intentions, but now that they know better, they can buy separate subscriptions in the future. It was a mistake, and I don't think the intent was malicious at all, and one that can be quickly remedied.

I would agree with you as to G Stone's intent. I'm not qualified to speak on the rest of it!

Well, I think we all agree that it isn't right to distribute Instantcert study materials to people who do not pay at all for them, the question that is interesting here is, can people share a subscription? I don't know the answer, but let's say that there is a home schooling family on here with two adults and three kids all taking CLEP exams. I would be very surprised if they paid $100/month for all five of them to have separate subscriptions. In that one household, it would make sense for them to share.

And if two people actually do split the cost, even if they live under different roofs, can they share? The cost of a subscription over the course of a year between two persons would still be a lot of money. I think in this second scenario they should pay separately, but that is just my opinion. If there is a hard and fast rule about this, I would be interested in the answer.

Don't give me lesson about common sense or ethics. There are obviously other people here, including Alissa, who are also confused on this subject. Before you go criticizing anyone you need to take a look in the mirror. Unless you work for InstantCert don't act like you know the copyright laws, rules, and regulations. If you choose to criticize then you choose your enemies. You will learn that in life.

I would like to think that if I offered some constructual criticism, it would be received with grace. And although I don't work for IC I have studied copyrights laws and know that your friend illegally distributed copyrighted material and that you unlawfully received it. There is no bones about it!
By the way, I looked in the mirror...

Constructive criticism is was not. Questioning someones common sense is not constructive. Your criticism was received according to the nature in which you distributed it. It is great that you studied copyright laws, so have I. It by no means makes you an expert in the subject. I would have accepted your critique if you presented it in a graceful way. Unfortunately, you did not.
By the way, it was a figure of speech...
