Hi all,
I am a total newbie and have read Sticky's threads. THANK YOU, STICKY! They are very helpful. You had said you guys could recommend a good quick study guide, like Cliff notes or something on some of these courses. I borrowed some textbooks and bought others on amazon. Now, I'm writing out the answers to each and every topic to go through them once again in my head. I took both courses 12-13 years ago, so I'm new at this again...
Please help with any advice. Which book is the best to give me a quick study overview? Am I approaching this the right way? I have until March 1st to complete both, so am sort of freaking out.

Your best sources to study for these exams are: IC flashcards, Specific Exam Feedback, and free Peterson practice tests. Are you a member of IC? ( $20 month subscription). You will have access to the Flashcards and Specific Exam Feedback. Just curious why you are taking the Cleps if you took these courses already--you should have the credit even if it is from a long time ago.

I just joined IC (Instant Cert Academy- abbreviation right?) :-) prior to posting my first message. I think it will be a great tool. Do you find that the flashcards are enough to study and prepare for the exam? Or should I stick to the textbooks? Wow, what a wealth of info out there.
I'm taking the CLEP's because to apply to UMDNJ, psych and soc are 2 pre-reqs. The limit is that you have to have taken these 2 courses within 10 years. I took them 12-13 years back. So, this is a cram attack for me....So many resources online, just trying to narrow it down to the resources I should use. The website says to use the flashcards, so after briefly reviewing the topics, I may just dive into that. I think I'm going too in depth with each topic and it's taking so long. I have to do Psych by Feb 22nd, and Soc by March 1st. UGH! I need your encouragement. :-)

I just used IC and practice tests. How I prepped for these and the other CLEPs was:
- InstantCert flashcards (twice)
- 3 Peterson Tests + review wrong & unsure answers
- Official CLEP Guide test + review wrong & unsure answers
Of course, depending how you score on the practice tests will determine where you'll need more study, if needed.

Adrienne- since you are an IC member, you have access to Specific Exam Feedback. The information in there is worth it's weight in gold. Make sure you are signed into the discussion board and look at the fifth forum down--- it should say Specific Exam Feedback IC members only. Click on that and do a search for the exams you need. You will find advice how to prepare and what to study for the exams. I would go there first and get a consensus of what you need to do as quickly as possible since you don't have much time to prepare. Also, go here for info on the free Peterson practice tests.

The specific exam feedback and IC flashcards should get you a pass. I also use Spark Notes / Spark Charts and find them to be a good supplement. You should also be able to find some free videos on these subjects at iTunes. Don't overwhelm yourself, which it sounds like you are doing. These exams cover the basic concepts, theories and maybe some basic applications.
Here's what I do, not that it will work for everyone: I would recommend that you do one free Petersen's exam and see how you score and where you need to review, then review the flashcards, specific exam feedback and any other materials recommended. I usually review the Spark Notes then do another Petersen's practice test. From there I usually focus on the areas I'm struggling with in the practice exam. I will review my specific exam feedback notes and Spark Notes the morning of my exam. This has worked for me, so I haven't tried anything different, but you may find you need more or less than this. Good luck!

Hi -I passed both of these using the REA Study Guides, and for Psychology I read through a text book and focused on the chapter summaries. I had no formal prior experience with either subject and passed each with one try.

@Marianne202- Spark Notes sound like a heaven-sent item! Where can I get these?? Do you have a link? And you are so kind to notice that I'm probably overwhelming myself. I think you are right. I think the time constraint I am having (discovering I had to do this too late) is freaking me out. But if I remain calm and cool, stick to the chapter reviews and Peterson's and flashcards, I know I can do it! Thank you for your inspiration!
@clep3705- What's an REA?! Sounds like another useful tool. Where can I get it?? I have to be ahead with my lingo and abbreviations and keep up with you guys. hahahah. Thank you!
