Never too old to CLEP
#1
I am 50 years old and have not been in school in FOREVER! I took American Government and Humanities yesterday and passed them both. Only studies the subjects on instant cert for 10 days and it was great. Will be taking aAmerican History 1 and 2 in 14 days.

Congratulations on both passes. It's funny, my first Clep was Am Govt, followed by History 1 & 2. It's never too late to get a degree as long as you are alive and kicking.
Good luck!

There are many of us here on the forum that I like to refer to as the "Over 40 & Fabulous" bunch that have gone on to receive their degrees. As Storygirl said "as long as you are alive and kicking" anything is possible.

Thats Awesome. I have toned down my testing out for a bit due to going overseas and all, but you give me motivation so I will get back on track myself and knock them out.

I am always glad to read about young people such as yourself being successful with CLEP. You'll find US History 2 relatively easy because you can remember about 1/3 of the material.

Don't believe a word of what clep3705 says about US History 2. The majority of the test concentrates on history prior to the Korean War. You weren't even born yet. However, you're old enough to have lived thru most of US History 1 - kinda.......LOL!!!!!

I was over 50 and had not taken a college class in 20 years when I started this time. I think we are more motivated when we have waited this long. As I have told others, my plan is to live at least another 30 years and why not enjoy what I do during that time?

Most 50 year olds will have an advantage on U.S. History 2 because they will have heard stories about WWII and the Great Depression from their parents and grandparents. Also, many 50 year olds took American History in high school and possibly middle school from teachers who remember World War II and maybe even the Great Depression.

It's not as important when auntskip was born. What matters is when the people who influenced teenaged auntskip were born. I learned about the CCC, the WPA, and the rest of the New Deal from people who remembered them. Even when a 50 year old can't remember all of the details of the oral history lessons from the 1930s, he/she still has an advantage because when it is time to study, the material is far more interesting because of being able to relate it back to a story told by a family member, friend, or teacher.

There is a reason my U.S. History II score is higher than my U.S. History I score - age does help. This reminds me of the famous quote from Ronald Reagan:

"Thomas Jefferson once said, 'We should never judge a president by his age, only by his works.' And ever since he told me that, I stopped worrying."

I also think that adults value history and politics more than kids. I had zero interest in politics in college. The history of Camaro versus Mustang was the extent of my interest in history. Now I can't get enough politics and American history.
