Lot's of reasons, overpricing is the main complaint I have, but there are lots more that will ensure they will never have the success of PC's. I have also read Steve Jobs biography and I would not buy anything he was involved with - what a despicable person he was.
I ran Linux on all my systems from mid 90's until maybe three years ago when I decided the time I was wasting tinkering was not time well spent anymore and they are certainly not user friendly, even yet.

Absolutely! And add to that:
(1) Designed in Cupertino CA. Made in Asia for pennies, under near-slavery conditions.
(2) Supreme arrogance of Apple Store employees.
(3) Hassle of dealing with I-tunes, even to get lectures made available free by universities. I'm told the same hassle occurs when trying to get your own, non-ITunes music from your PC into your IPod.
You don't control Apple products. They control you.
Build a hackintosh? I'm going to have to agree with Johann in that Apple products are made to control the consumer.

I completely agree that Apple is overpriced and very restrictive. A friend of mine once referred to the apple fan base as "iCattle" because they line up at the same time every year to be milked of their money.
With regards to Steve Jobs: Love him or hate him, you have to admit that he was brilliant in the area of marketing.
I prefer the open sourced capabilities of linux, but as AlbaTivo said, it's time consuming. And I can't play Skyrim on linux without using the "Wine" hack.
I enjoy using my "mac" for editing videos and stuff like that. The tools are actually very good for creative purposes. But there are plenty of creative tools for Windows and Linux as well.

Upton Sinclair, oops, bluebooger, that looks interesting, at least I assume it is interesting as my prehistoric desktop is still buffering and I am too lazy right now to go fire up my laptop. I have really enjoyed almost all of the posts. I found a friend that would replace my laptop keyboard but ever since the laptop is minding its p's and q's just fine! Go figure. So thank you one and all.
