  duel degrees TESC
Posted by: jackzack87 - 10-16-2009, 06:35 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

Has anyone gotten duel degrees from TESC? I am going for my BS, and it appears as if most of my core credits would work for a BA degree...has anyone done this? Any ideas? How much additional work?

  Precalculus

Hi everyone,

I took the Precalcus Clep test in August, and was pretty disappointed to see the little amount of information about the test. I hadn't join Collegplus yet when I took the test (I started taking clep tests before I joined since my brother was already in the program), but all the same, I could hardly find any information about what to study, how hard it was, what books I needed, calculator, etc...so I decided I should post something about it for anyone that is going to take the test and doesn't know what to expect.
I prepared by going through the Saxon "Advanced Mathmatics" book in 2 months. I took College Mathmatics right after that and then proceeded to study for Precalc. I used the Precalculus REA guide and that's about it. I didn't know if anything else was out there. We found some practice Precalc tests on the collegeboard website but they were only 5-10 questions long and not particularly helpful.
You cannot use your own calculator when you take the test; they have a downloadable calculator that you can practice on (2 weeks, I think, before taking the test). It's really not hard to use, and works pretty well. On the test, you actually don't use a calculator much (although in my family - you only use a calculator if you have too!).
Anyway, I ended up memorizing all the conic formulas and trig formulas, when actually, it wasn't as hard as I was expecting. You need to especially be familiar with finding domains/ranges and simpifying problems. Also, it is good to be able to identfy a graph or sinusoid (what it is, the equation of it, etc).
I hope others find this helpful, for there really isn't a lot of support for Precalc as there are a lot of other tests. I scored a 70 on College Math and a 65 on Precalc. I hope this helps and good luck to anyone that is going to be taking this test!!!!

  English Comp W/ Essay
Posted by: bethanynash - 10-16-2009, 01:48 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

I need to take English Comp w/ Essay... I'm not worried about the question section, but I'm wondering if anyone knows what sorts of things they ask for the essay question? I understand how to write a five paragraph essay, but wanted to practice writing a few using questions similar to the test.

Thanks in advance.

Passed Dantes Intro to MIS today
Posted by: The_Professor - 10-16-2009, 01:23 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Okay, I passed the Dantes Intro to MIS exam today (BTW they dropped the "intro" designation and now just call it Management Information Systems) with score of 439. This exam was no cakewalk, that’s for sure. I did my standard prep routine of studying IC only for approximately 10 hours for one week. If I didn’t already work in the tech sector I’m not sure how the outcome would have been. Does anyone have a guestimate of what a 439 with a passing score of 400 would unofficially correlate to grade-wise? C or perhaps a C+ or B-. Any thoughts? Just curious...

EVal finished thank god. now what?
Posted by: nj593 - 10-16-2009, 09:16 AM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (22)

OK finally tesc completed my eval.
I got 89 credits granted YES!
need 31 left..
What are some easy tests that I can focus on now to fill these spots.
I need 9 credits in Psychology electives
I need 12 credits to fill General Education credits
I wish ALEKS had more stuff to take. Big Grin Is there any other places online that do that stuff like ALEKS?
as for free electives I have 4 missing so i will knock out another 4 femas.
Then I need an experimental psychology worth 3 credits and a humanities for 3 credits.
I know spanish fluent will the clep fill in humanities? If so i will schedule that for this week coming.
Here is the thing I do want to take a biology class and a chem class but with lab. So I need to find somewhere that offers that by me because I do not think that online offers them with labs. I would assume they would go in general education as cook told me. So that would be around 6 credits together for general ed.
I was thinking maybe doing some Penn Fosters individual courses for the Psychology electives. Anyone know if this would be a good idea and if so do you have any courses in mind?
Sorry if this is a little of a ramble. But Im very excited now and heading full speed ahead. hilarious

Just an add on I noticed that Aleks has College alg with trig and Business statistics which i thought I completed but didnt.
Can those two fit in General Education credits ?
If so that is another 6 credits.. Or will they spin off the other ones that I already have and not count towards anything?

  quick tesc?
Posted by: nj593 - 10-15-2009, 06:32 PM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (1)

Hi I read something about tesc requiring something of 18 credits upper level. Do they implement this into the credit distributions that I saw online or is this something new that I am just not getting?
And last what is up with their eval overview time?
I applied back on Aug 29th, 2009 and they still are not complete.
They told me 4-6 weeks. Do they always run it down to the last day or something? I need to get this degree like yesterday. Big Grin
