TESU BSBA OPM elective options
#1
Hi,

I’m trying to find options for my last BSBA Operations Mgmt. elective (3 LL credits.)

I’m pursuing my degree through TESU, and I’m on the 2021 academic calendar. I’d like to complete as many courses as possible through alternative credit sources (Clep, study.com, Saylor, etc.)

So far I have completed the following courses on my OPM AOS evaluation:

AOS Requirements:
     Operations Mgmt. (TECEP, UL)
Applied Quality Mgmt. (not completed, but planning to take from CSU Pueblo)
OPM Electives (12 credits):
     Project Mgmt. (Saylor, UL)
Logistics & Supply Chain Mgmt. (study.com, UL)
     Mgmt. Information Systems (Saylor, LL)

My TESU advisor informed me the only elective left for me to take is OPM-415 Logistics. I would prefer not to complete OPM-415 Logistics at TESU because of the time/cost/work, so I’m trying to find other options.

I asked my advisor if any of the courses below would work for this OPM elective, but she informed me that none of these options are approved for this requirement.

(Most of these courses are suggested on the degree planning wiki for the TESU BSBA OPM, but I also included a few from TESU’s OPM certificate)

TECEP:
STA-201 Principles of Statistic
CIS-1070 Computer Concepts & Applications

Study.com:
Business 100: Intro to Business
Business 305: Leadership Communication
Business 307: Leadership & Organizational Behavior
Business 308: Globalization & International Management
Hospitality 304: Hotel & Lodging Management & Operations
Hospitality 309: Food & Beverage Service & Operations
Business 107: Organizational Behavior
Business 111: Principles of Supervision
Business 121: Introduction to Entrepreneurship

I also asked my advisor if I could use the Google Project Management: Professional Certificate or PMI’s Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)

Here is her response:

“…Unfortunately, neither certification will apply.

While the Google Project Management: Professional Certificate does transfer as 9 credits (MAN-2350, MAN-4350, MAN-4380), you shouldn't take it and expect any credits to apply. You already have credit for MAN-4350; MAN-2350 is essentially the same course at a lower level and; MAN-4380 doesn't qualify as an OPM elective.

Based on our records, we stopped accepting The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) back in May 2021….”

So if anyone has advice or suggestions for alternative credit options for an OPM elective (specifically logistics), I would appreciate it.

This forum has been very helpful. Thanks in advance for your help!

Who is the advisor? Great job, they're correct, as those classes aren't acceptable in the AOS! Having said that, have a look at the Certs and also the BSBA WIKI links for options, there are a couple of Study.com classes that can be done to finish off the AOS! Voila!

OP has those 2 classes already (OPM-3010 and OPM-4200).

One place I would suggest checking is eMajor or where any one of the community colleges listed in the page below might have some Operations classes:

Study.com Business 315: Logistics & Supply Chain Management

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply and info.

I asked my advisor about the courses listed in the BSBA Ops Man degree plan link except for the ones I thought I needed in my business core.

Specifically I didn't ask her about the following courses:
Principles of Mgmt. (this is already used in the Bus. core)
International Mgmt. (I assumed this would overlap the International Bus. course I'm planning on using in the Bus. core - please correct me if I'm wrong)
Managerial Communication (I thought this might overlap with the Saylor Bus. Communication course I'm using in the Bus. core)
Computer Science 303: Database Mgmt. (I didn't ask my advisor about this course as the wiki noted it might have been included in the plan by mistake)

I already completed Study.com's BUS-315: Logistics & Supply Chain Mgmt. (I just realized this was listed in my original post as 'Supply Chain Mgmt. - I updated my post with the correct name - Thanks).

I assumed that BUS-312: Advanced Operations Mgmt. would overlap with the TECEP I already completed, Operations Mgmt.

Please correct me if I'm wrong - I appreciate your help.

CSU Pueblo has additional options that may fit as well:

MGMT 460 Operations Strategy (3)
MGMT 362 Purchasing and Materials Management (3)

My son used the BUS-3110 TECEP to meet the H. Business/Society 3SH in the Professional Requirements (BS CIS, same requirement as the BSBA degrees). This would free up International Management to be used in your AOS electives. Worth asking your advisor before you pay for a more expensive option.
