Where we live, around $30,000 is what a recent graduate can expect with a degree in one of the social sciences. She doesn't even want to become a manager where she currently works because it doesn't pay enough. It's not like she has below average or average intelligence. She graduated high school in the top 10% of her class and graduated magna cum laude from college.
I hate to bring this up but certain women are not completely comfortable making more money than their significant others. You mentioned both she and her fiance have similar earnings. I would be interested in what she would do if he moved up in his career or became a business owner. I'd place bets her motivation and interests in growth would instantly kick in and it would be full speed ahead.
Early in my marriage I made a lot more money than my husband and many snide remarks were made (especially by my father); needless to say it caused problems. It took quite a few years but I was so happy when we leveled out.
