Everything I transferred in from ACE was just "requirement met" when it matched up with a course that's part of the degree. Plus WGU is pass/fail, so I don't think the really care about the "grades" of ACE courses.

Thank you for adding that, like I said I wasn't positive that it was WGU. I do know for sure though that a member on here mentioned one of the more popular-on-the-board schools keeping a record of alternative credit grades, so I wanted the OP to be warned. They didn't clarify which school they were looking into (only that it wasn't TESU) so there wasn't much else I could offer as advice.

My daughter finished right before her membership is up, but she is wondering if she should pay another $20 and get an A in the class.

No, the original score isn't kept by ALEKS or transcribed by ACE, so there isn't any value to getting more than a 70% assessment for GPA purposes. In fact, most schools indicate ACE transfer credit as CR (or Pass) and don't ever see what the actual score was.

Some providers (like Straighterline or Study.com) will send transcripts directly to your college, so they can see what your score was. COSC will use these to assign letter grades to Straighterline courses, but I don't think most schools really pay attention to those scores. I think this is an advantage at COSC since that means you'll have more graded credits on your transcript, which is handy for GPA and future schooling opportunities. It's unfortunate that more schools don't leverage this, though not everyone here agrees with that sentiment.

I always aim for A-level work in my own courses because that is my personal standard for ensuring I master the material, not because any school requires it. As they like to say on this forum, C's earn degrees, so it doesn't really matter what your final score is as long as you get the minimum required to earn course credit.

As others stated, it won't matter GPA wise. If you plan to pursue a more advanced math subject beyond that, then I would say it would benefit you to master much more than 70% of the material since it all builds on eachother. Building a structure on a 70% foundation will lack structural integrity. So if it's important to you, then get as close to 100% mastery as possible (doesn't have to be through ALEKs).
