I was reading in the Degreeforum Wiki, and came across upper level psychology courses through Penn Foster.
Quote:B. Psychology
Child, Family, and Community possibly Worlds of Childhood (PSY-317)
Consumer Behavior/ Consumer Psychology (PSY-345)
Correctional Institutions/ Psychology of Incarceration (PSY-330)
Organizational Behavior/ Organizational Behavior (PSY-361)
Victimology/ Victimology (PSY-364)
Has anyone successfully had these courses transcribed as UL psych courses? Aside from OB and Victimology(AOJ-381), I cannot find any of the other courses listed in the catalog. Sounds like a long shot, but it is worth asking if anyone has successfully made these courses work for a psych major.

Organizational Behavior will count as an UL psychology course. Consumer Behavior is a marketing course. I'm not sure if that would count as psychology because TESC's description of Consumer Psychology specifically says it looks at consumer behavior from a psychology point of view. This sounds like it's trying to differentiate itself from the marketing point of view. From my experience, if the corrections course sounds more applied than theory, it won't even be counted as a social science (if it's not a social science, it's not psychology). I had a correctional systems and practices course that counted as an AOJ course, but not a social science. On the other hand, I had a juvenile justice course that was counted as an AOJ course and social science. The description of Child, Family, and Community makes it sound like it has more to do with educational techniques than psychology. My guess is that, unless TESC regularly cross codes this course like Organizational Behavior, Penn Foster's Victimology would end up as AOJ instead of PSY. TESC's description of the psychology version of victimology specifically mentions psychological investigation, whereas, Penn Foster's description does not.
You're going to want to enroll first and have these courses pre-approved. I think PF's Crisis Intervention could possibly count as a psychology course. You might also want to ask about PF's Substance Abuse and Treatment in Criminal Justice. While Substance Abuse or Drugs and Society or whatever they call it now is not coded as PSY, it is still counted toward the psychology major.

Thanks sanatone.
I sent a ticket into the registrar asking if the courses would count as psych electives. I included the PF course, ACE description, and possible TESC equivalency. I am not currently enrolled but am hopefully I will get a response.

Kinda. I went a different direction with my degree plan, and switched from psych to S.S. I sent an email to the registrar for course equivalencies by matching up courses in the PLA database.
This is what I asked about:
PF
Crisis Intervention-
SOC-305
PF
Organized Crime-
SOC-359
PF
Correctional Institutions-
SOC-309
PF
Terrorism-
SOS-440
And their response was:
Quote:You are correct in your assessment of the TESC equivalencies for the Penn Foster courses you list. These are the ones listed in our global equivalency database.
Sincerely,
Assistant Registrar
